    Southeast Asia is a diverse region located between the South China Sea and Indian Ocean. It consists of 11 countries with varying historical backgrounds, cultures, religions and languages. Before independence, Southeast Asian countries were colonized by European powers beginning in the 1500s until World War 2. Though colonized, the countries developed classical kingdoms and empires. After independence, the countries shared experiences with colonization but differed in their colonial masters, methods of independence, political systems, economies and timeframes of independence.

    SEA :Sandwiched between South China Sea & Indian Ocean.


    Was known as the South Seas (Nanyang or Nampo) to the
    Chinese & Japanese.
    WWII, the term Southeast Asia signify the war zone by Lord
    Luis Mountbatten.
    The Southeast Asia countries consist of Brunei, Indonesia,
    Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia,
    Myanmar, Laos & Vietnam
    This is a colorful region where its people consist of various
    race, religion, language, culture & historical background

    Before SEA
    Classical

    Period SEA (3rd-15th century)


    dominated by several states & civilization.
    Funan & Champa is Southern Vietnam
    Angkor Dynasty in Cambodia that controlled
    Thailand, Laos and Mekong Delta.
    Sukhotai Kingdom.
    Srivijaya Empire.
    Majapahit Empire.

    Industrial

    revolution 1900 in Britain led to


    colonization.
    Gold, Glory & Gospel.
    SEA divided according to their colonial
    master.
    The presence of the colonists was obvious
    especially from 1500 to pre-WWII.
