Beyond providing, over $1,600,000 of emergency assistance last year, the Council focuses on creating ‘opportunities for people to build more productive and self-sustaining lives. Drawing on our own resources and on a network of other not-for-profits, * we are able to put a host of services and programs to ‘work for our clients... = Fresh job listing every Monday morning, help ‘with resumes and interviewing skills, plus oppor- tunities for career counseling, and skills training ‘= Weekly access to the Duffy Mobile Health Van as well as the medical, dental and counseling, services of the Outer Cape Health Service = Personalized mentoring in everything from ‘managing finances and legal issues to drug and aleohol abuse ‘= Hands-on assistance with applications for SNAP, federal fuel assistance and MassHealth ‘= Ongoing access to our food pantries, food distri- bution program and our free clothing store ‘= Outreach specifically targeted to Cape Cod's, + ‘community and our veterans population alll We Serve Orient are seasonal worker, members ‘our fishing community, single heads of households, the unemployed and the underemployed, veterans, seniors, children and the disabled. Roughly, 2,000 households turn to the Council dur- ing the course of a year for help to keep food on their tables, roofs over their heads or heat in their fur- races. They find so much more. They find a warm, ‘welcoming organization that respects each individ: ual's dignity and privacy, an organization that goes beyond the basic necessities of life to help with child ‘care and transportation costs if a job is on the line...or picks up the costs of an educational course or training program...or distributes over 600 turkeys and all the fixings at Thanksgiving...even opens and stocks a free toy shop that services of client families during the holiday We improve the quality of life on by helping those among us who are most in need of assistance. Through our efforts, young families and workers find the support they need to remain on Cape Cod and build their lives. Seniors and the dis- abled find relief from the restrictions that come from living on fixed incomes. Children start each day with decent nutrition and dothing, Parents and heads of households face the challenges of their lives know: ing they are not in it alone, that there is real and Practical help just a phone call away. Opportunities exist for volunteering in ‘every aspect of our organization: from our food programs and free clothing store to office work and ‘our advocate and mentoring programs; from sales and marketing opportunities at the Hope Chest (our consignment/thrift store) to sharing your man- agement or computer skills or your experience as a fundraiser , program administrator or events plan- ner. A Track Record You Can Trust ‘The Lower Cape Outreach Council has served resi- dents of Cape Cod for 35 years. We return 80 to 82 cents of every dollar raised to the communities we serve. We are proud of this accomplishment and {grateful to an army of volunteers that makes it pos sible for us to keep administrative costs to a mini- ‘mum and concentrate our resources on client serv- ices. Last year, these services totaled $1,656,310.
