Task 4:

PRE-TASKS ABOUT THE PRESENTATION OF THE FILM HARD TO BECOME WHO YOU ARE
The film Hard to become who you are starts in 1914 and ends in 2014. Its a journey by train of 9
young people through the past, the present and the future of Europe and the Arab world. The
destination is To-Gatherland where they may become who they are. Its important to be well
prepared as a viewer of the film and thats why we ask you to do these 4 pre-tasks. Your preflection
will be integrated in the workshop after the film. The actors are the stars in the film and you will be
the starts in the workshop.
1. What is the impact of World War One, The Cold War and the Crisis on your country and on
your family? Write a story on 1A4, including a drawing and some images.

2. Its amazing that the turning points that caused World War One, are still important today.
What were the causes of WWI and why did it completely go wrong?
Gather information about the five turning points in the present through text, music and
images.
The turning points are:
-the new economy (f.e. economic growth, globalisation, liberal economic capitalist system)
-the new technology (f.e. inventions in it, biology and communication)
-isms (f.e. nationalism, islamism, terrorism, imperialism and liberalism)
-human rights (f.e. the conflict between empathy and evil)
- a past thats no history (f.e. the remnants of the crusades, the religious wars in the 16the
and 17th century, colonization, imperialism, World War One and the Cold War)

4. Take a look at CNN BREAKING NEWS. Focus on the role and the style of the
anchor/presenter and the interviewed person. Write down your observations.
