All About Second

Grade at McMeen!

The following are expectations for students,


parents and/or guardians.
Communicate any questions or concerns with us at

anytime
Call the school at (720) 424-5520 or e-mail
I will get back to you within 24 hours or less.
Contact me if you would like to schedule a conference
and we can schedule a time.

Attendance
Students need to be on time everyday to be

successful in 2nd grade!


School starts at 8:00. Your child is tardy starting at
8:05.
School ends at 3:00
If your child is sick, you have medical appointments
or an emergency, contact the office.

Illness
Fever/throwing up- keep your child home for 24

hours
If your child becomes ill during school, you will be
contacted by the nurse/office staff.

Safety and Emergency


Our most important goal is to ensure your

childs safety, then education!


You must notify the office if there is any change in
your childs bus, day care or after school pick up
procedure.

2nd Grade Curriculum


Reading Expectations:
Reading at level 28 by the end of the year

Writing Expectation:
Writing a 5-6 sentence paragraph with correct punctuation,

capitalization, and grammar

Math:
Time, money, problem solving, three digit addition and

subtraction, graphing and place value

Science:
Sound Systems, Earth Materials, and Plants

Social Studies:
Community, Geography, and Economics

Behavior
Classroom rules and expectations are posted in the

classroom, and sent home in the student contract.


Green Card = Meeting expectations
Yellow Card =Warning
Orange = Classroom time out

Pink = Restore to All-Star- students complete written

reflection in buddy classroom. To be signed and


reviewed by parents/guardian.
Red- Parent contact/office referral

Birthdays
If you would like to celebrate your childs

birthday in class, please bring store bought


treats.
Birthday celebration will start at 2:30.
Please notify me the day before the
birthday.

Homework
The purpose of homework is to provide a means

for your child to practice and review the concepts.


Your child will receive homework Monday and
return to school on Friday.
The homework will require you to work with your
child to help them succeed in mastering the
concepts taught.
Your child will be asked to read at least 20
minutes a night and record their reading on a
reading log.

Field Trips
We will have a few fieldtrips scheduled throughout

the school year.


We will notify you when a fieldtrip is planned.
We will ask for parent/guardian help during these
trips.
Fieldtrips are official school trips.
