Homeroom Teacher: Ms. Iris

Learning Assistant: Ms. Su
Email: iris.low@iss.edu.sg
Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new academic year!

I am excited about working with you and your child this year. We believe that your involvement is important to your
child’s education, and we welcome your questions, help and support.

General Information
The school day runs from 8:00am- 2:45pm. All Arrival and Departure will be from the lower carpark located on
Depot Road. Currently, children will be sent directly to class when they arrive in the mornings and there is no
access for parents/carers beyond the lower car-park.

Upon arrival, all students will need to do a SafeEntry check-in using their Trace Together app or token and
have their temperature taken. They will also be required to wear masks at all times along with enhanced safety
measures in place.

Home Time
There are two timings that the children are being released to go home – 2:45pm and 3:15pm.

For children who are being picked up,

(1) Kindly indicate your preferred timing in the response slip below and try to keep to your indicated timing
(2) If you are driving or taking a taxi, it’s important to note that the school car park area will only be allowed
entry from 3:15pm. If your child is not picked up by 3:30pm the school secretary will phone you.

It is important that if travel arrangements from school are changed, you contact us as soon as you can. You can
phone 64754188 to do this.

Communication
● Email is the best way for you to communicate questions, requests or information with the homeroom
teacher. You may expect to receive a reply usually before 8 am or after 3 pm when the children are not in
class.
● School and general class information will be
communicated via an online learning
management system, ManageBac – do check
for updates.

New families would have received an invitation to

join ManageBac on the email you’ve provided,
do check your Spam folders just in case. The
link invite to set up is valid for 7 days.
● Our class blogs are also a good opportunity to see what has been happening in the classrooms. It is still in
the process of being set-up. I will send you the link to access the page when it’s ready.

Snack and Lunches

Children have the option to bring lunch from home or pre-order food from the school caterer. When they bring in
lunch, do label the food containers with your child’s name and do note that we have a nut-free policy in school.

The children may place their food in the refrigerator if it needs to be kept chilled. Please note we are unable to
reheat food so please send it in an appropriate container to keep it warm.

Do bring in a healthy snack, no fizzy drinks and we would prefer that chocolate is not a regular part of snacks or
lunch. There is to be no sharing of food at this time.

Water bottles
Please provide a labelled, refillable bottle for your child to use.

Stationery
Due to Covid-19 safety measures children are not allowed to share
classroom resources, including stationery. A set of stationery has been
provided. If they bring in additional stationary, kindly label the items.

PE
Children in Grade 2 have two PE sessions per week, for this term, it is on Monday and Tuesday.
Do come in with their PE attire.

Hats
Children should have a labelled hat in their bags or they may choose to keep it in the class during the week.
These should be worn at playtime and PE.

Art
Please send in an old shirt for Art and label it with your child’s name. These will be kept at school and sent home
for washing when necessary.

Homework
We expect that your child puts in at least 2o mins of reading time daily, not limited to only books from school.
This can be a parent-child activity. Have your child scan through the book independently and then read aloud to
an adult. They will bring home a book suitable for their reading level and do an exchange every day. Please record
the books they read in the small reading log provided and send it in their mesh bag daily.

For Math they will be assigned activities on Mathletics. Full homework routines will begin in the second week.

Parent Evening
There will be a parent evening at the end of August (more information sent at a later date). During this meeting
homework expectations and information about the curriculum will be covered.
Curriculum
This year we will be continuing our work on the IB PYP (International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme).
This is a concept-driven inquiry based programme. The children will begin to ask questions and learn how to
gather information and find the answers to their questions. We will study six different Units of Inquiry
throughout the year integrating with our Maths, Language and Specialist Programmes. Curriculum and time-table
information can be found on the class blog.

Birthday Celebrations
Unfortunately, we are unable to have food sent in at this time for birthday celebrations.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I hope you and your child enjoy the year!

Best wishes,
Ms.Iris
