Field Trips:
If a parent is chaperoning on a field trip, they will be expected to pay for themselves AND
supervise a group of students.
Due to safety and supervision concerns, if a student has 2 or more office referrals and/or 1 Out
of School Suspension, your child may not be able to participate in a field trip unless a parent
attends and pays associated costs. You will be notified by the teacher, if this pertains to your
child at least one week in advance.
End of Year Fifth Grade Celebration:
This is a fun filled day with inflatables, a DJ, special lunches, snacks and drinks, as well as games and
other exciting activities.
BEHAVIOR-
If a student receives an N for 3 quarters for conduct, they will miss an hour of the celebration. If
they receive a U for 3 quarters for conduct, they will miss the whole celebration. If they receive
a combination of N and U for conduct, time off will be determined by the teacher.
WORK COMPLETION-
Classroom assignments/ projects must be completed in order to fully participate in the
celebration. Any missing assignments may be completed during the celebration with the
remaining time available for your child to participate.
If a student receives an N for 3 quarters for work study habits, they will miss an hour of the
celebration. If they receive a U for 3 quarters for work study habits, they will miss the whole
celebration. If they receive a combination of N and U for work study habits, time off will be
determined by the teacher.
Fifth Grade Recess:
Recess is considered a privilege. All classroom assignments and student behavior are considered on a
daily basis for participation.
Technology:
All technology, including cell phones are only allowed to be used during BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
classroom time. Otherwise, all cell phones and technology should be turned off and at the bottom of students’
bookbags. Technology devices are not allowed to be out on the bus, playground, lunchroom, halls, and
bathrooms. Violation of this rule will result in loss of technology privileges at school, and the technology
device will be taken up and given to the office for the parent to pick up.
Attendance:
Showing up for school every day on time has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in
kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key
role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success
in school and in life.
Regular attendance is critical to your child’s success at Dowell, and we encourage you to have your child at
school all day every day unless sick. Attendance is also an important component is our CCRPI score. Once a student
reaches 6 or more days absent, whether excused or unexcused they do not count for our attendance data in both the
CCRPI and the 5 Star Climate Survey. Students who are present less than 65% of their enrollment period have
standardized state test scores that do not count for Dowell on the CCRPI. Please support your child and our school by
having your child in attendance each day.
