Dear Parents/Guardians,

As a teacher, it is our firm belief that productive learning can be accomplished in a safe, well-managed
environment; therefore, our 5th grade level will have a set of guidelines to follow. These guidelines help create
and maintain a successful learning experience. The following are a few guidelines to help you understand our
classroom expectations.

Parent Involvement:
One of the goals we would like to accomplish this year is to improve parental involvement. We keep
parents informed of any activities or upcoming projects through letters, email, or phone calls. Please be
on the lookout for such notices. In addition, school planners may be used as a communication tool for
parents and teacher. Please sign the school planner daily. We encourage all parents to become
involved in their child’s education. We hope to raise parent involvement in our school with your help. If
you would like to assist as a parent volunteer, please let any 5 th grade teacher know.

Homework:
We highly encourage all parents to view their child’s homework as a confirmation that it gets done.
Homework should be initialed by the reviewing parent and returned the next school day. If a student
does not complete an assignment, he/she will be expected to complete unfinished work. Exceptions to
the homework policy will only be accepted for excused absences. Students who are absent will have
three (3) days to complete missed work. If you know that your child will be out for a long period of
time, such as off-island flights, hospitalization or any illness (chicken pox, etc), please contact me to
arrange make up work. Books and assignments may be picked up after 3:00pm in the office.

Projects:
In addition, quarterly projects in various subjects will be assigned throughout the school year. Projects
are to be completed at home. Your help and support will not only make your child more successful in
school, but will instill good study habits that will last a lifetime.

Class participation and Attendance:

Attendance is taken everyday at the beginning of homeroom by 8:45am. Students are picked up at their
waiting areas by 8:15a.m., classes start promptly at 8:30a.m. Please ensure your child is on time.
Mishaps occasionally occur. Should one happen and your child is late to school, have your child pick up
a late pass from the office to be cleared as an absent student. If your child should miss 3 school days in a
row, he/she will require a doctor’s excuse.
Participation is needed in class everyday. We understand that some students are afraid to talk in settings,
but this is a trend we need to resolve. Your child will be asked to participate in class discussion and
project presentations, and maybe, even school activities. Please speak with your child on this matter so
that he/she could be at ease.

Uniform Policy
Finegayan Elementary School will be enforcing the uniform policy. Students must wear their school
uniform tops and BLACK bottoms. Bottoms must be shorts (fingertip level), skirts or skorts, and pants.
No leggings sweat pants, joggers, or denim jeans will be allowed. More information may be found in the
Uniform School Board Policy as part of the office packet.
