Tite: #33 Vocabulary Study

Time Needed: 30 Minutes
Room Arrangement: No Change Needed
Materials: Dictionaries, thesauruses, vocabulary study worksheets, pencils
Process/Directions: After passing out spelling/vocabulary words, or students finding important
words in a content area reading passage, or during language arts, pass out the worksheets to the
students. Guide students the first time filling out the worksheet. This assignment could also be
put into a canter or given as homework. Have students fill out each box. Walk around the room to
make sure students are on task. Students could even use this as a jigsaw activity, where they
share their pages and complete the list.
Example of when I would use this: Spelling words, hard words that need deeper understanding,
when learning many new words in a text, or just to build the students vocabulary.
