Time Needed: Several Days, 30-45 Minutes per day Room Arrangement: No change needed Materials: Computers, internet access, word processor, paper, pencils, research texts: biographies, autobiographies, novels, etc. Process/Directions: Introduce the topic to students, it could be anything you choose, or let them choose. If the students are choosing, give them a short time to come up with a topic and get it approved. If they cannot find a topic, then I will choose. Give the students guides for their research and have them fill them out to aid them. Give students ample time to do the research on the internet or in texts. After filling out the guide, have students type up or write up their report. If they do not have a guide, give them a scoring guide or rubric. Have students share their reports with the class if they choose. Example of when I would use this: During a social studies unit on anything. Example could be the Civil War, students could write a report on any of the generals, President Lincoln, his wife, Frederick Douglass, Charlotte Grimke, etc. Younger students could write reports on an animal or a holiday.
