Course Description:
Drawingisafullyearformalfoundationcourseforstudentswithinterestinpursuingart
intheireducationandcareer.Emphasisisonobservationaldrawing,andlearninghowto
see.Additionally,itisaprerequisiteformanyadvancedartclasses.

Course Objectives: (based on national core art standards)


Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to
- Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.
- Organize, develop and refine artistic ideas and work
- Analyze, interpret and select artistic work for presentation
- Perceive and analyze artwork
- Apply criteria to evaluate artwork
- Synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make art
- Relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural and historical context to
deepen understanding.

Required Class Materials:


- Sketchbook: 8x12 (around that size, it does not have to be exact)
-Pencil
-Eraser

1st quarter assignments- Warm up still life exercises, Perspective, Hands, Van Gogh
copy
2nd qtr- Charcoal still life (reduction, white charcoal, additive), surrealism, Charcoal
portraits (full & view)
3rd quarter- Negative space, morphing, skeleton
4th qtr- graphic novel page, big room in charcoal, cups, face collage
