Gothic Art and Architecture

Medieval Art:
During the Early medieval times gothic architecture became very
popular.
Gothic architecture is inspired by the Romans and this type of style was
very popular in Europe.
This gothic architectural style is well known for its pointed arch,
rib vault, and flying buttress.
Gothic architecture is seen a lot in European Churches/ Cathedrals,
Castles, Town Halls, Universities, and Aristocratic dwellings.

Burgos Cathedral:
Burgos Cathedral is a Roman Catholic.
This famed church was dedicated for
the Virgin Mary.
Burgos Cathedral architecture is well
known for is Gothic inspired style.
The construction for this Cathedral
started 1221 (11th Century) which
originally had all Gothic inspired work.
During the 15th and 16th centuries
Renaissance inspired style was also
added.
During these periods domes, columns,
pilasters, and lintels were added.

Medieval Artist:
Lorenzo Ghiberti is a Medieval painter and sculptor. He was one of the
founders of The Renaissance.
The Renaissance was era of intellectual growth which started in Florence,
Italy, during the 15 Century (mid 1400s).
Donatello, another Medieval sculptor. His sculptures were largely inspired
by famous people and events.
Fra Angelico is a famous Florentine artist from the Medieval period who
specialized in the Pietistic paintings (religious art.)
Cimabue is the last known painter who also helped form The
Renaissance. One of his major contributions toward this movement was
realism.
