I.

Academic Subjects
a. Religion
In our Religion we will be studying the Bible and Prayer using our Religion curriculum. I
will also be incorporating real world situations and social justice into the Religion teachings
in order to promote globally aware students. We will be working on guided meditations and
we will be doing a service project presented and chosen by the students. The date of the
service project is to be decided.

b. Math
In Math the students will be expanding on what they did last year. The problems will be more
challenging. In the first book we begin with Place Value and rounding. We will be studying
addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We will also be doing more work with
decimals. In the second book we will be working on fractions, decimals, and measurement.

c. Science
In Science are book is broken down into 3 main parts. We will be studying Life Science,
Earth Science, and Physical Science. In Life Science the students will learn about cells,
Classifying living things, vertebrates, and non-vertebrates, ecosystems, and adaptations. In
Earth Science the students will learn about the Earths soil and water, air and weather, and the
Solar System. In Physical Science the students will learn about Matter and measurement, and
heat and electricity. The students will use their Interactive Notebooks for their Science
Curriculum. We are very excited to have one unit of Foss Science to incorporate into our
Matter and Measurement Unit.

d. Social Studies
In Social Studies we will be studying US History. The book starts out with Native American
groups of the US. Next, we move on to explorers of the Americas. After that the students
will learn about colonization, settling in the US and eventually the major wars and the USs
involvement.

e. Language Arts
Reading
I will be encouraging the students to develop a love of reading. Students will read
independently and as a group. We will be reading from our wonderful reading series.
We will also be reading at least two chapter books, Stargirl and From the Mixed Up
Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. The students will be participating in Literature
Circles throughout the year.
Spelling
The students Spelling Test is included in the reading test. It focuses on application and
editing rather than memorization. The students receive a spelling packet every Friday.
The words he or she has is based on the words misspelled on the Friday Spelling
Pretest. If your student loses his or her spelling packet he or she may take home a
Spelling Workbook to copy the missing words by hand or with a copy machine. No
replacements will be given. This policy will apply to most assignments.

English
We will be working on our writing skills by working in our textbooks and using our
Trait Crate. First the students will be learning about proper writing structure and the
6 Traits of Writing. A paper will be due about every two weeks with a final
publishable paper about every two months. Most of the writing will be done in class
but they will be some work rewriting at home. The students will always be given a
rubric that must be turned in WITH the assignment. If your student loses his or her
rubric he or she may copy the missing rubric by hand or copy it from a friend. No
replacements will be given.

II. Interactive Notebooks

a. Interactive NBs do require higher level thinking skills, which can be confusing to students
at first. Especially if they are not used to this kind of work. However, the children are getting
it. From what Ive seen in their work thus far everyone is doing a great job. There is room for
improvement but I expect their skills to grow as the school year continues.
b. Interactive NBs are very beneficial to all students because they hit on all learning
modalities. Its a form of Brain-Based teaching that reached Multiple Intelligences. This
means students learn in many different ways and the Interactive NB can hit on all of those.
Please see the website under homework for links to different sites that explain Interactive NBs
as well as give examples.
c. Social Studies Interactive Notebooks are due every Tuesday and Science Interactive
Notebooks are due every Thursday.

III. Projects
There will be various projects throughout the year. The students will always be given at least
5 days to do these. They will also receive instructions either though an assignment sheet or to
copy from the board. The students will always be given a rubric that must be turned in
WITH the assignment. If your student loses his or her rubric or project assignment page he
or she may copy the missing rubric by hand or copy them from a friend. No replacements
will be given.

IV. Testing and Grading

a. Tests will be after every chapter and Reading quizzes and Math quizzes will be every
Friday. All tests are graded and sent home on Mondays to be signed and turned in on
Tuesdays.
b. Tests with a grade of an 70% or below can be corrected and turned back in on Tuesdays.
The two test grades will be averaged for the final grade.
c. Option to improve a bad test grade by retaking the test. The two tests grades will be
averaged together.
d. Study guide and review day will be given before every test.

V. Homework Policy
Universal Homework Model: STAR Homework
a. STAR HW and Spelling Packets are due every Friday.
b. What is Star Homework?
Star Homework is a weekly bookmark that gets sent home with three activities for the
students to practice each night. Each activity earns them one star.

c. What does a student do to earn a star?

Simple, meaningful things that will benefit them in the long run and not cause any undue
stress in the short run.
1. Read for 20+ minutes= 1 Star

2. Work on Interactive Notebook= 1 Star

3. Practice Spelling Words= 1 Star

Note: If your student loses his or her STAR Homework Bookmark he or she may copy the
missing bookmark by hand or copy it from a friend. No replacements will be given.

VI. Absent Students

a. Please call the office and let them know if your student is going to be absent or late.
b. If a student is absent they will pick up an Absent Work Folder prepared by the Class
Recorder when they return to school. The Class Recorder will answer any questions the
student has.
c. The student will have one extra day for each day absent to complete their work. So, if the
student is absent one day he or she will have two days to complete if the work. If the student
does not turn in the work on time it will be considered late.

VII. Behavior Policy

a. I have high positive expectations for your children. They will receive lots of positive praise
for doing well. Your children and I have discussed the expectations together. Please reinforce
these ideas by discussing them at home.
b. The students and I came up with a class constitution. They understand they are to respect
themselves, others, and school property. They know they are to share, listen, take responsibility
for their actions, and bring a positive attitude to school every day.
c. If negative behavior persists you will be contacted by email then by phone.

VIII. Schedule
a. Please see the schedule on the website or in your childs binder.
b. Students lunch period is at 12:00 every day.
c. Tutoring is available after school until 3:45pm if your child needs it. Please have your student
talk to me if they need extra help in a subject.

XI. Attendance Policy

a. If your student is late or absent please let me know.
b. Students arriving in the morning on time is very important to their academic success. Please
make sure your child arrives by 8:20 every morning.

XII. Final Notes

a. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities including, but not limited to, chaperoning field
trips and helping to organize class parties.
b. Birthday treats are welcome to celebrate your childs special day. Please make sure you
schedule a time with me beforehand.
c. Please label your childs bag, lunch bag, and supplies with your childs name.
d. I will be sending home Scholastic book orders monthly and strongly encourage you to
take advantage of their convenience and prices to help stock your home library. Books
purchased also help fund books for our classroom as a bonus!
e. Please let me know if someone other than you will be picking up your child.
f. If your child has not brought home three books to be covered please make sure he or she
does so. Thank you!

I. Temas Acadmicos
a. Religin
En nuestra serie Religin estaremos estudiando la Iglesia y la oracin en nuestra vida, la justicia social, y los
siete sacramentos. Vamos a trabajar en meditaciones guiadas y durante la Cuaresma vamos a hacer un
proyecto de servicio presentado y seleccionado por los estudiantes. A finales de ao vamos a cubrir la "vida
familiar" del programa.
b. Matemticas
Este ao, la Sra. Francisco ensear matemticas. Quinto grado de matemticas opiniones valor posicional,
divisin y multiplicacin. Hay trabajo en fracciones, decimales, geometra y medicin.
c. Ciencia
En ciencias estaremos estudiando los seres vivos, el Sistema Solar, la naturaleza de la materia, el agua en la
Tierra, y el tiempo y el clima.
d. Estudios sociales
Vamos a estudiar los 50 estados, americanos nativos, los exploradores, las trece colonias, la guerra
revolucionaria, el gobierno a principios de los Estados Unidos, y el gobierno actual.
e. Lengua y Literatura
Voy a estar animando a los estudiantes a desarrollar un amor por la lectura. Los estudiantes leern de forma
independiente y en grupo. Vamos a leer desde nuestra maravillosa serie nueva lectura. Adems, Esperanza
Rising y El valiente Despereaux est en nuestra lista de lecturas aos. Tambin vamos a leer al menos un
libro ms captulo. Los estudiantes estarn participando en crculos de literatura durante todo el ao.
Ortografa
Los estudiantes tendrn una prueba de ortografa todos los viernes. Voy a tomar las palabras de las lecturas
durante la semana. Los estudiantes recibirn un paquete de ortografa del viernes anterior a su prueba.
Ingls
Estaremos trabajando en nuestras habilidades de escritura de un diario todos los das y trabajando en nuestros
libros de texto. Primero, los estudiantes van a aprender acerca de la estructura y la escritura correcta de los 6
rasgos de escritura. Un documento se deber cada dos semanas con un trabajo final publicable o menos cada
dos meses. La mayor parte de la escritura se har en clase, sino que ser un trabajo de revisar y volver a
escribir en casa.

II. Proyectos
a. El lunes 3rdh septiembre, habr un proyecto de 50 estados de vencimiento. Los estudiantes se les dio la
tarea, los materiales necesarios y la rbrica.
b. Cuento de Despereaux proyecto. Los estudiantes recibirn aproximadamente 10 opciones para elegir. Los
estudiantes comenzarn Despereaux sobre Novemeber.
c. Estudios Sociales-los estudiantes se les dar varias asignaciones a corto y largo plazo para completar todo
el ao. Ellos siempre van a tener por lo menos 5 das para hacer esto.
d. Feria de Ciencias Project-Los estudiantes tendrn varias semanas para hacer este proyecto. El formato de
la Feria de la Ciencia ser similar al del ao pasado.

e. Puede haber otros varios proyectos durante todo el ao. Los estudiantes siempre se les dar por lo menos 5
das para hacer esto. Tambin recibirn instrucciones ya sea a travs de una hoja de tareas o para copiar del
pizarrn. Los estudiantes siempre se les dar una rbrica que deben ser entregados con la asignacin.

III. Anlisis y Clasificacin

a. Las pruebas sern despus de cada captulo y la Lectura pruebas y exmenes de ortografa sern todos los
viernes. Todas las pruebas son clasificados y enviados a casa el lunes para ser firmado y entregado el martes.
b. Las pruebas con una calificacin de un 80% o por debajo se puede corregir y se volvi en los martes. Los
dos grados de la prueba se calcular el promedio de la calificacin final.
c. Opcin para mejorar una mala nota en un examen por volver a tomar la prueba. Los dos grados pruebas
sern promediados juntos.
d. Gua de estudio y das de revisin se dar antes de cada prueba.

IV. Tarea Poltica

Modelo universal Tarea: La tarea ESTRELLA
una. Cul es tarea Star?
Tarea Star es un marcador semanal que se enva a casa con tres actividades para los nios a practicar cada
noche. Cada actividad que gana una estrella.
b. Qu hacen los alumnos a ganar una estrella?
Las cosas simples y significativos que los beneficien en el largo plazo y no causar ninguna tensin indebida
en el corto plazo.
1. Leer por 20 + minutos = 1 estrella
2. El trabajo en Notebook Interactivo = 1 estrella
3. Palabras Prctica de ortografa = 1 estrella

V. Los estudiantes ausentes

a. Por favor llame a la oficina y hacerles saber si su hijo va a estar ausente o llegar tarde.
b. Si un estudiante est ausente tomarn en las manos de una carpeta de trabajo preparado por la ausencia de
la grabadora de clase cuando regresen a la escuela. El grabador de la Clase contestarn cualquier pregunta
que el estudiante tenga.
c. El estudiante tendr un da adicional por cada da de ausencia para completar su trabajo. Por lo tanto, si el
estudiante est ausente por un da que l o ella tendr dos das para concluir si la obra. Si el estudiante no
entrega el trabajo a tiempo ser considerado tarde.

VI. Comportamiento de la poltica

a. Tengo altas expectativas positivas para sus hijos. Ellos recibirn un montn de elogios positivos para bien.
Sus hijos y yo hemos discutido las expectativas juntos. Por favor, reforzar estas ideas mediante su discusin
en casa.
b. Los estudiantes y yo le ocurri una constitucin de clase. Ellos entienden que han de respetarse a s
mismos, a otros ya la propiedad escolar. Ellos saben que van a compartir, escuchar, tomar responsabilidad
por sus acciones, y llevar una actitud positiva hacia la escuela todos los das.
c. Su estudiante completar un formulario Refocus si su comportamiento se sale de control. Luego lo
discutiremos juntos. La forma Refocus permite al estudiante a reflexionar sobre su conducta indeseable y
tomar mejores decisiones en el futuro. Los estudiantes tambin participarn en la "Light 'em Up Jar". Para
ello se sacar una buena accin de la jarra que tienen que hacer ese da para hacer las paces con la actividad
irrespetuoso participaron en anteriormente. Los estudiantes y yo hemos llegado con las buenas acciones de la
clase.
d. Si la conducta negativa persiste usted ser contactado por nota luego por telfono.

VII. Programar
a. Los estudiantes tendrn educacin fsica los martes y viernes. Al contrario que en el 4 grado deben venir
a la escuela vestidos de uniforme y traer su ropa de educacin fsica para cambiarse. Los estudiantes pueden
cambiar sus zapatos para la EP.
b. Perodo de almuerzo es a las 12:40 todos los das. Este grado quinto ao jugar primero y segundo comer.
Su tiempo de receso ser 10:40-11:00.
c. Todos los martes habr tutora despus de clases hasta las 3:45 pm. Tambin habr disponible tutora de un
compaero tutor de 8 grado los lunes. Voy a recomendar a su hijo si sienten que necesitan ayuda adicional.
Tambin puedes hablar conmigo si cree que su estudiante necesita ayuda adicional. Cualquier estudiante que
es ms que bienvenido a quedarse en mi habitacin hasta esos momentos para hacer los deberes, estudiar o
recibir ayuda adicional.

X. Poltica de Asistencia
