SUB-CENTRE, LATUR
Why Choose SRTMUN Sub-Centre, Latur?
The current trend in education has been leaning towards upgrading and updating
knowledge and ideas to enhance the creativity and to face the demands of job
requirements. Technology enabled centres have helped in taking forward University level
education to more professional ends.
The concerns and involvement of SRTMUN and the state government in the
expansion of opportunities of Higher education sector at underprivileged areas have
resulted in establishing a Sub-Centre (Campus) at Latur. It has provided a comprehensive
platform for learning specialized and professional courses at one campus. This welcome
move would help meet the higher education needs of the growing youth population of the
region and thereby increase the GER. Key industries and organizations are also queuing
up to hire exceptional talents having competent and updated skills in management,
computer, information technology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, economics and social
sciences fields. Sub-Centre, Latur (established in the year 2007) has accordingly been
prepared to impart education, training and employable skills through different courses
under three Schools. All the schools and the administrative wings are equipped with
infrastructure, fixtures and other amenities independently. Computer laboratories and
personal PCs with staffs are connected with broad-band internet facility. The successful
academic process and drive for excellence are conditioned here by the elements like
visionary academic leadership, committed and talented faculty, transparency in
administration, merit driven functioning, liberal funding, autonomy in curriculum designing
and implementation and finally the enthusiastic students. Thus the product of the SubCentre, Latur is a complete, potential, vibrant-youth ready to undertake challenges and
will not mind to manage the business of others. Apart from conducting specialized courses
of higher learning, the Sub-Centre, Latur has also become the nodal agency for the
affiliated Colleges/Institutions/Research centres of Latur district in the context of
Universitys administrative and examination related activities. Students from foreign
countries have started taking higher education in different courses here. The Sub-Centre
is developed to a research centre and many Ph.D. students are pursuing their thesis work
under the guidance of the subject supervisors. The sub-centre is housed in a five storied
(area = 8,882 sq m built-up), architecturally well designed, strong and eye-catching
building with a peripheral campus of 53 acres lush green environment on Latur Ausa
road (05 km from Latur city), near village Peth.
The Schools of higher learning and Courses operating at Latur Sub-Centre are
The Computer Laboratories: There are 08 computer labs for the students with latest
computer hardware and software installations. The computers are maintained by a
qualified Computer staff and by hired experts.

are connected with broad-band non-stop Internet facility from BSNL and under
NMEICT project of Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India.

provided with news papers, magazines and table games.
Placement Unit : There is a placement unit at the Sub-Centre to coordinate the project
work and placement activities of all the students. It is assisted by senior faculties. The
placement officer of the university provides inputs to this unit. Accordingly, Industrial
houses, Firms, Financial institutions, Banks, NGOs, Academic/Research institutions
and other private recognized organizations are invited to interact with the students for
selection, training and recruitment. Each year, a good number of students from each
school are finding suitable jobs by this unit.

The School of Social Sciences was initiated in the academic year 2009-10 with a teaching
curriculum of M.A. in Economics. The Masters Degree program in Social Work was added to the
curriculum of the School in the year 2011-12 and Sociology in 2012-13. The primary objective of
this school is to uncover various aspects of human life (i.e. social, political, economical, and
ethical development, etc.) through the teaching-learning process programmed with a University
degree. At the present junction of the world, it is necessary to create learned social scientists to
assist the planners, administrators and strategists of the world in reducing the social imbalance
and maintaining a harmonious environmental order. The School is gradually expanding its teaching-learning and research activities in this direction. Our vision is to provide a clear understanding of the basic and intermediate principles of the subjects to the students, so that they can
encash the opportunities from Socio-Economic fields and solve the prevalent problems of the
society.
Having academic autonomy, the school coordinately organise and prepare its courses as per
CBCS pattern under CGPA system of the university guidelines. The field exposure and project
report writing are key component of each program.

Ragging is legally banned. It is a punishable offence. In view of the increasing number of events of
ragging, the University Grants Commission has passed the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of
Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009.
Ragging is any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act
which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student, or including in
rowdy or indisciplined activities by any student which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or
psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student or asking any
student to do any act which such student will not in any ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or
generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of
such fresher or any other student, with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing of power,
authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.
The Anti-Ragging Committee may, depending on the nature and gravity of the guilt established by the
Anti-Ragging Squad, award, to those found guilty, one or more of the following punishments namely;
i) Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
ii) Withholding / withdrawing scholarship / fellowship and other benefits.
iii) Debarring from appearing in any test / examination or other evaluation process.
iv) Withholding results.
v) Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth
festival, etc.
vi) Suspension/expulsion from the hostel.
vii) Cancellation of admission
viii) Rustication from the institution for period ranging from one to four semesters.
ix) Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified
period.
