Lucky in love?
Chris Martin was born in 1977 and he has been the lead singer with the band Coldplay since it
formed in 1998. He also plays the guitar and piano in the band and has written some of their
songs. His father was an accountant and his mother was a music teacher. He went to London
University to study Latin and Greek, and the other members of Coldplay were also students
there when they met. Their first album, Parachutes, released in 2000, went to number one and
has sold more than five million copies. Since then, Coldplay has remained one of Britain’s most
popular bands.

Gwyneth Paltrow was born in 1972 in Los Angeles. She’s had plenty of experience in the
entertainment business, as her father was a film director and her mother was an actress. Early
in her acting career, Gwyneth starred with her mother in a play called Picnic. She has now
appeared in over 30 films, and in 1999 she got an Oscar for her performance in Shakespeare in
Love. In 1995 she and Brad Pitt both starred in Seven. They started going out together and got
engaged in 1997. They later split up, but have stayed good friends. Gwyneth then had a
relationship with Ben Affleck, but they split up too.

Chris and Gwyneth have been together since 2002. Chris says he hasn’t been very lucky in
love, but things changed when he met Gwyneth at a Coldplay concert. They got married
secretly in 2003. Their daughter Apple was born in 2004 and their son Moses in 2006. Moses
got his name from a song that Chris wrote for Gwyneth just before their wedding.
