Dinosaur

Millions and millions of years ago, long before there were people, dinosaurs walked the
earth. Dinosaurs were reptiles. The biggest dinosaurs were the largest animals that ever
lived on land. The smallest were about the size of a chicken.

Plant Eaters
Most dinosaurs ate plants. These gigantic Brachiosauruses were as tall as a four-story
building and weighed as much as 15 elephants. They had long necks that allowed them to
eat leaves on high branches that other dinosaurs couldn't reach.

Meat Eaters
Some dinosaurs survived by eating other animals, including other dinosaurs.
The Tyrannosaurus was one of the largest and most terrifying meat eaters on Earth. Its
sharp teeth and powerful jaws could easily crush bone.

Dinosaur babies
Dinosaur babies hatched from eggs. Female dinosaurs laid the eggs in nests on the ground.
Some dinosaurs cared for their babies by feeding and protecting them until they left the
nest. Others left their young to survive on their own.

Death of the Dinosaurs

One of the great mysteries about dinosaurs is why they became extinct, or died out,
about 65 million years ago. Many scientists think that a huge asteroid or comet from
space crashed into Earth at this very time. Dust from the crash would have blocked
sunlight and stopped plants from growing. The dinosaurs would have starved.
