nearly equalled the size of most modern-day whales. The famous kinds of dinosaurs reached 80 to 90 feet in
length. Not all dinosaurs were giants some were actually not larger than a chicken.
Scientists still do not know what caused dinosaurs to disappear. One theory involves a change in the
Earths climate. It is believed that temperatures dropped significantly towards the end of the Cretaceous
Period. Too large to hibernate, and not having fur or feathers for protection, it is possible that the climate
became too chilly for dinosaurs. In contrast, other species, such as birds, had protection and were able to
survive.
2p 1. Another name for the Mesozoic Era is the Age of Reptiles.
2p 2. Dinosaurs disappeared 200 million years ago.
2p 3. The biggest dinosaurs were as heavy as an elephant.
2p 4. Scientists are not sure that a change in climate made dinosaurs disappear.
