Introduction:

In this Lab we studied the reaction between an Acid, in this case we have
used 3.0M HCL, and Magnesium in strips, in this case we have used 2
strings, the first one with a mass of 0.02grams and a length of 1.34cm, and
the second one was 0.04grams and a length of 2,5cm, however, In this
experiment we tried to know the volume of Hydrogen gas released during
the reaction between the Acid and the Mg.
To measure the volume of hydrogen gas for the Mg strips we used a 50 ml
graduated cylinder, 15 mL of HCL, 35 mL of water, plastic wrap/bag, paper
clip and a Fish tank with water on it and some ice.
This Lab lasted around 45 min approximately.

Procedure:

For this we followed the next 10 steps/procedures:

1. Put on goggles
2. Obtain 2 strips of magnesium. the length was 1.34cm and 2.5 cm
3. Pour 30 mL of 3.0M HCL into the bottom of a 50mL graduated cylinder.
4. Fill the rest of the graduated cylinder with water. Add water very
carefully and slowly.
5. Place one strip of magnesium on the top of the water. Place some plastic
wrap on top of the cylinder and secure it with a rubber band.
6. With a paper clip poke a small hole in the top of the film.
7. Invert the graduated cylinder and place it in the fish tank on the center
island.
8. Make observations.
9. Once the magnesiums and the HCL are done reacting, read the volume
of gas collected.

10. When you finish recording this, you may pour the remaining acid
solution down the drain with excess water.
