Underlying Problem

Given that the current generation of children in Singapore are very

vulnerable to cyber bullying,as Singapore has the 2nd highest rate of
cyberbullying globally, how can we equip them with the basic
understanding of cyber awareness,so as to enable them to be more
aware of the threats online, which would in turn promote cyber wellness
in Singapore,in the year 2015 and beyond ?

Needs Assessment
Target Audience: Primary School students who are engaged in social media
They are vulnerable without being equipped with the knowledge of how to protect
themselves and others online. They also need other healthy activities that they can
engage in to take their minds off social media so that they spend less time in the virtual
world and more in the real world

Our Plan
To educate students about the forms of
cyberbullying and the role that they play in
cyberspace. Our target audience are primary
school children. We would at the same time
teach the primary school children about the
available resources on the internet so they can
make use of them effectively.

What we have done (planning)

Our Programme is split into 5 main components:
Selection Process
Powerpoint presentation about cyberbullying and ways to prevent it
Useful Internet websites that can help them in their studies/lives (Powerpoint)
Amazing race
Follow up lesson (Optional)

Selection Process:
Due to the fact that in each CDAC centre, there are alot of children, more than what we
need for each session, we have decided to conduct a survey to split this children up.
What the survey does:
1. Assesses the needs of the children in terms of their level of awareness online and
behaviour as a whole
2. Ranks the children accordingly
3. Allows us to select those that are the most in need and to invite them to attend this
workshop that will be beneficial for them.

What we have done

Powerpoint presentation about cyberbullying:
1 quiz contained within the presentation. Talks about the types of cyber bullying that
happens on the internet and how to avoid getting dragged into this vicious online cycle.
Prizes can be won in the quiz!!

What we have done

Presentation on the various useful internet sites that can aid them in their studies or their
daily lives such as Wikipedia, BBC News, Ted Talk, Khan Academy.
Live demonstrations would be done and cards with the links to this websites would be
distributed.

What we have done

Amazing race:
5 different interactive stations with fun and interactive games that are related to what
they have learnt. (Cyber awareness)
Teams of 5, point system is implemented using tokens.
Speed, time and skill affects the outcome of the amazing race.

What have we done

Amazing race:
Objective:
To test what they have learnt from our workshop but also show them that other
activities can be just as enriching as being online, encouraging them to spend time
elsewhere
5 different stations: Epidemic, destroying cyberthreats, online actions, master builder,
teamwork is key.

Follow up Lesson (Optional)

This follow up lesson would be conducted 1-2 weeks after the main session has been
conducted. Students who found the main course to be useful or those who want to learn
more about cyberbullying and cyber awareness are welcome to join in on this follow up
lesson.
Contents:
1. Recap on the main lesson
2. More activities: A mini contest involving skits, role playing
3. Goal: For them to recap on what they have learnt in a fun and engaging way.

What do we intend to do?

Due to the fact that the CDACs time slot is full and is only able to accommodate our
wholesome programme after 15th July, we would be conducting multiple sessions (around
6) starting from 15th July, around one to 2 times a week. And at the end of all of this, with
the CDACs approval, we would strive to organize a cyber themed carnival and all of those
who have attended our workshops would invited to attend and join in on this activity.

Why have we not conducted it?

We had e-mailed CDAC on 3rd June , but their reply only came on the
23rd. They have looked through our proposal and have accepted it.
However, they said it would take at least 3 weeks to schedule the workshop
and the confirmed earliest date we can conduct the workshop there is the
15th this month.
We also called a student care centre but their reply was that it was not
possible to conduct the workshop during the holidays and or during the
month after the prelims due to the fact that they have already scheduled
multiple activities for the children in the daycare centre and are unable to
accommodate us into their busy schedule. However, they are pleased with
our plan and would like us to conduct it at their various centres around the
island later on in this month, around the 20th.

Reflections: Jing Hong

Overall, I feel that the process of planning was a very meaningful one. However, since we
were unable to execute our plans thus far, it felt like it was incomplete. Over the course of
these months we were able to shift the projects focus from Resource Development to one more
suited for the Service Learning category, as we were able to shift our focus from just teaching
these students to learning together and serving them. When we actually get around to
conducting the workshop around the next few weeks, hopefully we will be able to deliver what we
have been planning for months

Reflections: Mervyn
I feel that this group lacks co-operation, and also, sometimes
uncontactable. There is little work progress since Prelims as a result.
However, despite these, we still accomplished what we should have done
by when we should have been done. The dejecting thing was that when I
sent the e-mail to the beneficiary on 3 June, it took them 3 weeks to reply,
and they still needed another 3 weeks to process information before we
could put all of our hard work to use.

Reflections: Zehao
I feel that as a whole, this project has been rather meaningful for me. Even though we did
not manage to execute or plans prior to the semi-finals due to the fact that CDAC was
very busy with other programmes and it took them weeks to sort out their events before
they could allocate us time slots in their schedule. However, we did finish all of the
preparation for the programmes and rehearsed for it a couple of times. We did what we
could and what was left was to just wait for the CDACs go ahead and we can immediately
get on the ground and execute our well developed plan which we have prepared for a very
long time.

Reflections: Hung Yee

I am a little disappointed with the outcome, given that our group could not have a chance
to execute our plans. However, I understand that CDAC and our various potential partners
were busy and it would take several weeks for them to sort out their events before they
could ensure that they had a clear schedule. I also think that our group members also did
their best by frequently writing emails to CDAC. In the end, I think that although we were
unable to execute our plans, I still have a tinge of a sense of accomplishment, given that
we know what were doing and that we have done the best we could.
