home. The Mayor met with faith leaders and frontline organizations and as a result, a public information
forum and town hall has been organized for Thursday Oct. 1 from 5:30-7pm at City Hall. This meeting will
be to discuss how Ottawa can participate in humanitarian activities. You will hear from previously
sponsored families and learn how you can assist to bring refugees to Ottawa. There will be information
tables and places where you can sign-up to assist in whichever way you can.
Churches in Kanata, including the church I attend, sponsor refugee families. St. Johns Church sponsored
refugees in Project 4,000, when Vietnamese refugees were welcomed to Ottawa; my Kanata group then
sponsored a family of 10. The children in that family are now strong contributors to the Canadian
economy. If you want to help Syrian refugees call my office and leave your contact information.
EXPO 55+ is tomorrow - Fri Sept. 18, Mlacak Centre, 1-3:30pm, 2500 Campeau. This free event
provides seniors and those caring for seniors with information from about 40 non-profit groups. Enjoy
refreshments, door prizes and networking.
TERRY FOX RUN in Kanata is on Sunday Sept. 20 at the Kanata Montessori School, 355 Michael
Cowpland Drive. Registration opens at 8 am and you can start your walk or run between 9am and noon.
TWO IMPORTANT PUBLIC MEETINGS NEXT WEEK One, on what buffer is needed between
existing homes and the expansion lands to the north, is on Wednesday Sept. 23 at 7pm at St. Johns
church, 325 Sandhill. The other, to present the design and discuss future bus routes in the Morgans
Grant area, is on Thursday Sept. 24 at 7pm in the Minto Room at the Richcraft Complex, 4101 Innovation
Drive. Information about these meetings are on my website. Come with your suggestions and questions
as the result of these meetings will impact your communities.
OTTAWA IDOLs 1st place winner at the event at the Hazeldean Mall was Kanata resident, Stephanie
Bulluck. Congratulations Stephanie!
SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION this fall will provide a link to the 417 bridge at Eagleson with the
substandard section on the bridge to follow later. A second project is to complete the missing link on
Flamborough from north of Halton to Ipswich.
SLOW DOWN CAMPAIGN is now underway to alert drivers to obey the speed limit on our streets
and protect our children as they go to school. To take part in contacting your neighbours to get Slow
Down signs on your street please contact my office at 613-580-2474.
A GUIDE FOR DOG OWNERS IN KANATA NORTH is now available. Im looking for
volunteers to help deliver it to dog owners. If you could do that on your street please contact my office.
CLEANING THE CAPITAL Remember to register now to take part and keep our community clean
and tidy. Individuals, street groups, schools, churches, community groups and businesses can participate
in a cleanup and/or graffiti removal. Details and registration forms are available at www.ottawa.ca/clean
