Known as one of the world's greatest animation directors who ever existed, Hayao Miyazaki is considered to be the most popular and influential figure in the animation industry of our times. I, myself, have been fascinated with his films and he is, undoubtedly, a major personality in the history of cinema. First of all, what really makes him unique is the feelings and strong emotions his movies manage to engender in people. Indeed, it is the entertaining plots, the compelling characters and the breathtaking animation that have stunned audiences throughout decades and have earned him international renown from critics as well as public recognition within Japan and worldwide. Besides being a masterful storyteller and film maker, Hayao Miyazaki is also the founder of Studio Ghibli, a name that would become synonymous with quality. Many wonderful and valuable films were produced by this studio and most of them won a series of international awards and some of them were even awarded with Oscars. This proves not only Miyazakis professionalism, but also the genius and perfection of his work. What truly inspires audiences from all over the world is the way Miyazaki explores different themes, which are most of the times very complex and mature. His films do no not only address all generations, but the perspective and the understanding of a movie differs depending on your age and experience. And it is very intriguing to compare your perception of a film at different stages in life. However, the movies, per se, are extremely enjoyable, regardless of what you manage to decipher in that ocean of symbols.
To conclude, I would say that Hayao Miyazaki is not only a
remarkable figure and a representative icon of todays film industry, but also a very significant personality whose name is bound to remain in history.
