Lisa and Dave went over RADS 1010, and it is up and running
on Canvas (the SLCC online platform), as was stated in the
Minutes
last minutes. Lisa thanked the PAC and mentioned that the
Review
members are appreciated and important.
ARRT exam results: In the last semester, the AART sends
Dave a box of the books that were handed out which guides
the students in taking the registry exam, which is a $200
computerized test. It is very detailed in that it shows them
what will be on the test, including how many questions in
each category and details of each category. It also states
that film is being minimized and that they no longer have to
memorize chemicals, etc., which is also a good guide for the
instructors to know what they need to teach.

Over the years, the instructors have watched the test results
so they know how to prepare the students even better. They
are trying something different this year, including cutting out
things that were obsolete, adding in digital radiology, cutting
down the length of the review tests, updating materials as
the technology always changes, updating PowerPoints, and
breaking up the kettering and mixing in reviews. Although,
whats not different is listening to the kettering audiotapes
while following along in the book.

education and it may be because there arent enough

openings and too many students, such as MRI scanning, and
that they prefer to keep their job after they graduate for job
security. There are rumors that there are not enough xray
jobs.
The instructors have discussed teaching more emergency
preparedness which will now be offered in the fall. It was
mentioned that mock scenarios would be a good idea to add
in labs, etc. to make it more interactive. Rebecca mentioned
that because the training is not at our facility, its harder to
involve that. She will see if they could coordinate with her in
working on getting scenarios started.
This cohort has 19 day students and 15 night students.
The Assessment Plan is put on the webpage and its very
important that they meet their goals and objectives.
Regarding 1.2, before it was a test score in patient care, but
the instructors decided they would like to change it to see
the students demonstrate patient care under the CIs. This
will be done annually in December. Regarding 2.1, another
assessment was added which is the graduate survey.
Regarding 2.2, they will go through the graduate survey
again.
Every assessment was met except for the test score in RADS
1050 in which the average score of the class of 2012 was
only 70%.
This year starts the new application process. Angela from
the Admissions Office mentioned that the students need to
think about immunizations earlier as they need to start their
series of shots. She will send out an email stating this to the
students. Sherrie mentioned that the instructors could share
this info in the RADS 1010 class and refer them to the
website and narrate any changes. The Admissions Office is
looking how to do application process another way. They
arent receiving as many applications, but the deadline was
moved to February 15th. All have the opportunity, even the
ones on the waitlist, to apply as long as they meet the new
criteria.
The assessment center is now running for pre-admission
tests. The test is $85 compared to outside providers that are
$20, so it isnt as much of a burden as before. We will begin
to pass the information that there is still time to take the test
before the deadline so that we can know how many
potentials there are out there still waiting and even what the
success rate of those taking the test.
Jenni will work with Angela and will email updated
information regarding the application and narratives on
immunizations.
For the first time, there is a 3rd section of RADS 1010, the
introduction course, as the interest is out there and now
there is more of an opportunity. Sherrie mentioned that the
dynamics have changed and we want a larger pool of
dedicated students. We will be running more 1010 classes,
look for more adjuncts, and we waited until everyone could
register and opened the section so it will be more fair for all
students (transfer students, etc.). Every other summer there
will be one or two sections open so theres the opportunity

but so it isnt vacant every summer.

Kari, Allied Health academic advisor, mentioned that
because of the new admission criteria, it was good to have
an information session/open house which was well attended
and informational. It would be good to do it again so theres
not so many of the same questions.
It would be a good idea to hold an open house once a
semester. September or October would be a good time so
they can get their immunizations and apply in January as
well as in the Spring, such as in April.
The application interview process is in the middle of April.
PAC members would like to help with this. The students
need their perquisites finished with a grade before they can
apply.
The students are having a very difficult time getting into
facilities and getting volunteer hours. Right now there are
25 points for volunteer hours, which is a very high number.
It is desired to downsize the point value of the volunteer
hours so that not as many are cut off from the interview
process as personality is very important. Sherrie suggested
that cvs could be asked for instead. Decisions have to be
made by September of this year to get in the catalogue for
the next cycle going in. Changes also have to be made
before touching applications and that the weighting can be
adjusted since it isnt published. 25 points is too high and it
will be adjusted to 5 points and the total amount of points
doesnt have to be 100. Also, in September we can change
the verbiage on the application regarding customer service
interaction for the 2014 2015 cycle; Sherrie will look into if
we can change it for the 2013-2014 cycle. Consequently,
the application could include a statement such as, Show us
what experiences you have that would make you a good
candidate for this program.

Each year, the students go to their clinical sites and do a

project that will better the facility and/or provide quality care
to patients. A few examples include:
At IMC, they took a skeleton and broke it down to the MA
mass values/KUP values. They also made a quick reference
one that they can carry around. At VA, they created a quality
assurance program and looked at the new computer system
and looked at procedures and discussed with techs how they
can better improve it (code 20). If you would like to use any
of these projects in your facility, let Dave know. At the U of
U, they did tests on the tools with clear cellophane and
wedges and sponges and no images showed the cellophane.
At Jordan and Pioneer hospitals, they made a technique chart
to put on portable units, a protocol for the exams, and did
landmarks on the skeleton like at the students at IMC.
Dave thanked the members for having the students at their
facilities and hope that these projects help your facilities.
JRC is our accrediting body and they constantly look at their
standards which govern how we do things in the program.

Meeting

On the handout given at the meeting, there is a notification

that shows the proposed changes to the current standards.
Go to jrcert.org, scroll slightly down and click on Standard
Revisions. They want input and you can type in your
comments there. Lisa encourages members to look at these
changes which could change how we do things. An example
of a proposed change is on page one: Assignments to
clinical settings such as pediatric facilities, while clinically
valid, should not be used for extended periods of time.
The instructors will be going to the ACERT conference that is
in February 6th, 7th, and 8th where there will be
representatives from JRC to discuss these issues.
This was Mike Bales last meeting as he is retiring. He was
thanked for his time and service.
The next meeting will be held Friday, April 5, 2013 at 8:00
a.m.
