The image was taken at a

hotel lobby in Chicago.
It took me three wedding
sessions to take this shot.
When I arrived at this
hotel for the first wedding
session, I immediately
envisioned this finished
image but the bride and
groom were not interested in spending a few
minutes for a shot that not
every couple will have. I
was bummed. Then few
months later I had another wedding session at the
very same hotel and was
hoping to get this shot. I
was very excited but the
wedding day madness
threw everything off the
schedule, the bridal party
barely made it to the
reception on time.
Finally on the third wedding, I worked with a
couple who were ready
to do anything I asked.
But there was a huge

convention going on that
day and all the elevators were running up and
down like crazy. I had to
take charge and possibly make some people
not very happy, but I was
determined.
I told the bride and
maid-of-honor to take the
elevator on the right and
stop the elevator on the
second floor. The maid-ofhonor kept the elevator
door open with the tip
of her shoes. The groom
and the best man did the
same on third floor. All this
time we communicated
via cell phones to give
directions to the bride
and groom. I was calling
the maid-of-honor cell
phone to tell the bride to
go a few inches to the
right, when she moved
too much I called again
etc. Same story with the

groom. This was my time
and I was going to get
it right. While all this work
being done, all other
hotel guests were down
to one elevator and that
made the third elevator
get in my shot by stopping at 2nd,3rd, 4th floors,
creating distration. Having
other guests in the final
image was not something
I was aiming for and I
believe in getting it right in
the camera as much as
possible.

The
Elevators
We all patiently waited for

almost 10 minutes. I was
setup with my Nikon DSLR
and a 70-200 2.8 lens on a
tripod. When the time was
right, I took the shot. Then
I converted the image to
Black&White later on post.
As you can see the results
were worth the effort:).

Edwin started his journey

of wedding photography
since end of year 2007.
It all started while photographing his children as
a hobby. Realizing that
he had talent for photography, he attended
a workshop on wedding photography. The
workshop had a profound
effect on him, filling him
with great inspiration and
emotion. This was when
he realized his calling to
go out and capture those
special moments that last
a lifetime!
Edwin is blessed with
an uncanny ability to
anticipate and adapt to
changing moments of a
live shoot. His relaxed and
easy-going nature puts
couples at ease which
enables them to fully express themselves. Edwin
is unobtrusive and allows

the events to unfold, as
they should whilst surreptitiously injecting some of
his own direction. With
a storyline crafted in his
mind, Edwin goes out to
find the deeply emotional
moments that reflect the
story of the day. Being
the perfectionist that he is,
Edwin believes that every
minor detail is important
loving glances, smiles
and meaningful moments
always captured and no
tears left unseen.
Not one to be satisfied
with his shots, Edwin always strives to do better in
the next shot. Edwin believes that inspiration is all
around us whether it is in
the future or the past, we
just need to tune into it.
More importantly, he
firmly believes that a photographer needs to be
passionate about his work
especially when making that crucial decision
in shooting never-again
events like a wedding.
The effect of Edwins work
on most of his clients has
been emotionally profound, particularly upon
seeing the finished compilation of their wedding

boy, he was very impressed with photograph

old father of 3 (2 dogs
included) and dedicated
husband. Layla, their
recent addition to the
family, was born at home
and Rutsen aspires to take
her birth energy with him

are his muse. His family IS
photography. The goal is
to make enough to pay
the bills, keep a roof over
their heads, have some
food in bellies and maybe
hit up the local restaurant

The love of photography

rig. This passion started at
this time and only continues to grow and develop.

more than 25 years in
the business and having
photographed well over
1000 he still gets the buzz
and excitement as he did
when I first started. Its the
unpredictability and the
fact that no two are the
same.
Neil works by pure instinct
and adrenaline and is
why he is more suited to
wedding photography
than say studio or product
photography.
His style has just evolved

naturally and although
Neil looks at other photographers work for inspiration he never goes out to
copy or clone. Neil shoots
in a purely documentary
style with absolutely no
posing or directing.
He travels throughout the
