Final assessment of The Crucible will be an objective test and essay. Daily
quizzes, vocabulary work, and writing assignments will be homework grades.

Group Roles:
Director
Assigns reading roles.
Instruct readers about the
emotion of the characters.
Call a Take Five for your group.
Language Expert
Call attention to noteworthy
language in the play. Note
especially metaphors,
hyperbole, word play, and
especially foreshadowing.
If you dont notice anything
read the reading and literary
focus questions at the bottom of
the pages.
Write down at least three things
of interest from the days
reading.
Vocabulary Expert
Look up words to help clarify
meaning for the group.
Write down at least five words of
interest that are not footnoted,
along with act, scene, and line
number.
Assign each group member a
different word to add to his/her
vocabulary assignment.

Discussion Leader
After each days reading, lead a
short discussion (3-4 minutes).
Make sure all group members
get the opportunity to speak at
least once.
If you cant think of anything to
discuss, summarize the reading,
discuss any symbolism, make
predictions, discuss Millers
implied meaning of the reading,
discuss how the action parallels
other historic events, discuss
character motivations, etc.
Everyone
Read parts as assigned by
Director.
Ask for help with difficult
vocabulary dont overwhelm
the vocabulary expert, but be
certain you understand whats
happening in the play.
Participate in all group
discussions.
Be prepared for the days
reading by having all the
previous days reading finished
especially if you have been
absent.
Write down the word the
vocabulary expert gives you to
complete the vocabulary
assignment.
