CLASS OVERVIEW

Our class will focus on making you a stronger reader, writer, listener,
and speaker.

We will be reading four (4) books this year, one (1) book per quarter.

We will be responding in writing to what we read.

We will have four (4) writing units this year, one (1) per quarter.

We will be discussing the reading and writing we complete in class.

We will work on improving your grammar and vocabulary.

*You may use a 3-subject notebook and binder for both ELL English and
Content Literacy if each classs resources are kept separate.

PARTICIPATION
Participation is critical to the overall quality of your learning. Student
participation includes the quality of class contributions, using our
common language, having your materials, timeliness, and
demonstrating an overall positive attitude. This includes being
respectful of yourself, your peers, and your teacher.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Students are expected to follow all the rules outlined in the UCS Student
Handbook.

Homework is due at the beginning of class.

Be ready for class each day by bringing all of your materials.

Students are expected to be in class and ready to begin on time.

We will follow the Reality Therapy system that centers around behavior
being a choice.

It is your responsibility to get your homework turned in on time when you


are absent. You are also responsible for all handouts and/or notes missed
when you are not in class.

Gum, candy, food, and/or beverages, are not allowed in class. Water is
the only exception. Students may bring bottled water into class.

Students should bring only the required materials for class. Large
backpacks, cell phones, iPods, and other types of items are not allowed,
unless requested by the teacher.
