Acquiring

of 2 years
old Cacao
seedling.

1. Screen the supplier for the quality of the cacao plant they are
selling. For our cacao tree, we decided to buy the tree from Malagos
Agri-Ventures Corporation, Davao.
2. Buy 98,763 two years old cacao with the average height of 2
meters, from them after 2 years of operation.

1. Plant it in 3x3 spacing in between the 9x9 spacing of coconut

2. Water the cacao trees every thrice a week or plant it at the onset of
the rainy season and use 15-35 grams of diammonium phosphate (1848-0) per bag depending on the size of polybag to make sure that they
grow well. Granular fertilizer is also used when the leaves are dry to
avoid leaf scorching.

Planting

3. Quarterly checking is also required to ensure that pests and other

weeds do not take the nutrition from the soil. Use grass cutter to
remove high grasses.
4. Observe for the buds/flower of the tree. When it turned to pods,
around 15-20 cm long, cover it with plastic cellophane to prevent
pests and other airborne diseases that could manifest in the pod.
5. Visit the pods after 5 months of planting to ensure that pods are
ready for harvest.

1. Remove the cellophane from the pod once the pod turns to yellow,
red or orange.
2. Use gloves and large knives to cut the pods from the tree. For tall
trees, use ladder. After picking the pods, put it in large baskets then
deliver it to the cutting/splitting section.
3. Split the pods vertically or horizontally. Care must be present to
ensure the quality of the pulp or the beans itself.
4. Use knife or spoon to separate the pulp from the shell. Put the pulp
in jute bags. When the bag is 60-65 kg, seal the jute bag. For the shell,
put it in baskets then deliver it to the drying area/roofless building
then dry it for 2-3 days. Scatter the shell to make sure that each shell
receives equal sunlight. Repeat the process.

1. For the jute bags, inside the truck in 3x3x6 manner to ensure that
the pulps will not get pudgy. 54 sacks per truck. For the dry cacao
shell, put it in sack then seal if it weighed 60-65 kg. Arrange also in
3x5x6 manner, 90 sacks per truck.
