cardholders and issuers hundreds of millions of dollars each
year. It is not always possible to prevent such fraud, but there
are some steps that ean be taken to make it more difficult for a
crook to steal card numbers.
The Better Business Bureau (BBS) Serving Missis­
sippi offiors these tipSorthings-i{)doln order to help protect
yourselffrom credit card fraud:

'Sign your cards as soon as they arrive.


'CartY your cards separately from your wallet.
·Keep a record ofyour account numbers, eXpil"dtion'
dates, and phone numbers for the companies issuing cards,
·Keep an eye on your card during transactions and
retrieve it as quickly as possible.
'Void any incorrect receipts.
·Destroy any carbon and carbon copies.
'Save receipts to compare with billing statements,
'Reconcile account statements promptly.
·Report any questionable charges promptly and in
writing to the card issuer.
'Notify card companies of address changes in ad­
vance.
'Report stolen or lost cards promptly.

"If you lose your card, or if you realize it has been


stolen, immediately call the issuers. Many companies have
toll·free numbers and 24-hour service to deal with such emer­
gencies,» said Bill Mosk, President/CEO of the Mississippi
BBB.
