Year 4: Use scaled instruments to measure and compare lengths, masses,

4. Presentation
To begin, show students the pictures of the measuring cup, measuring spoons,
3 different milk litre cartons and a soda bottle. Have the class decide together
which order the objects will go from the smallest capacity to largest.

Have students cut out the piece it together game and play one game of piece
it together (blocks mode) with their buddy
Hand put sheets with boxes and have students make the boxes
Explain to students that before they fill the containers that the cubes need to
be stacked in order to accurately find the volume. There must be no spaces.
Have students record their answers on the recording sheet
Have students complete their volume and capacity mathletics book.
Have students complete their volume and capacity mathletics book. If there is
time, have students play the piece it together game.

Explain to students that there is a faster way to look at volume besides what
we had done the day before
Show the Volume Song (Happy Parody) By My Peters classroom on YouTube
Guide students with their filling out of their recording sheets from the previous
day
Have students fill out their work book
Explain that students who do well can either play piece it together or play an
interactive volume game
