OptiX 6800 - 3800
OptiX 6800 - 3800
With a rapid growth in the demand for broadband services and the development of new communications
technologies, the transport network is faced with a challenge of transmission and grooming of huge number of
services. In the conventional WDM system, only point-to-point transmission is supported, and the DXC/SONET or
routers are used to perform service grooming. With the approach of the age of T bit services, there is an abrupt
increase in requirements for the grooming capability of the DXC/SONET and routers, making the access capability
of the DXC/SONET and routers declined. In this case, operators have to add more equipment and ports, which adds
much to the cost. In addition, the attendant problems, such as delay and jitter result in serious impact on the quality
of services (QoS).AS a result, the traditional WDM networking mode is not suitable for transmission and grooming of a
huge number of services.
To focus on the challenges faced by customers, Huawei has pioneered the OTN-based switched WDM equipment,
OptiX OSN 6800A/3800A dedicated for the North American market, based on a comprehensive analysis on the
development trend of the transport network. The OptiX OSN 6800A/3800A is designed in a brand new architecture
and has integrated with the management and protection functions of the next generation switched WDM platform for
the WDM transport, OTN, ROADM, 40G/100G, and SONET-like networks. It is more suitable for IP-based broadband
services because of its flexible structure arrangement.

Non-blocking grooming
Optical grooming: Supports two/four/nine-dimensional ROADM grooming, realizing quick connections of wavelength
services and broadcast of services.
Electrical grooming: Supports GE/ODU1/ODU2 service grooming, realizing grooming and regeneration of wavelength/
sub-wavelength services.
Optical/electrical cross-connection integration: The plane cross-connection at both the optical and electrical layers
helps to minimize the total cost of operation (TCO) and deploy services quickly. In addition, it solves the wavelength
blocking problem, guarantees non-blocked connections in the network, and improves the bandwidth utilization.
The architecture in which the tributary unit is separated from the line unit realizes quick configuration and upgrade of
the services on the client side and line side. This safeguards investment of operations and reduces spare parts.
OptiX OSN series products, realizing end-to-end configuration from the access layer to the
backbone layer and quick deployment of the entire network
The OptiX OSN1800/3800A/6800A/8800A series covers every layer of a network. All their service boards (except
for the service board of the OptiX OSN 1800) share the same management platform, based on which end-to-end
connections between layers of the network can be configured quickly. As a result, the network cost is decreased.
