Rules for configuring slots of the OptiX OSN 8800 subrack
XCS  Slots IU9 and IU10 can be installed with the XCS board.
 If the OptiX OSN 8800 functions as an optical-layer subrack, slots IU9 and IU10 cannot be installed with any
boards. That is, slots IU9 and IU10 must be blank and must be covered with a blank filler panel.
SCC  The SCC board can be installed in only slots IU11 and IU28 (IU28 must be configured by default, and IU11 is the
standby slot for IU28).
 When not installed with a standby SCC, slot IU11 can be installed with only an optical-layer board with a central
processing unit (CPU) and cannot be installed with an optical-layer board without a CPU.
Universa  Slots IU1–IU8, IU12–IU19, IU20–IU27, and IU29–IU36 can hold all 6U service boards and optical-layer boards.
l slots
 The printed circuit board (PCB) of a two-slot-width service board such as the OAU1, OBU205, TN12LSXLR, or
NS3 is on the right side of the front panel. Therefore, such a service board cannot be installed in slot IU1, IU20, or
IU29, and thus a logical service board for such a physical service board cannot be created on the T2000 or
T2100. The PCBs of other two-slot-width service boards are on the left sides of the front panels on the service
boards.
 The PCBs of the boards that can be installed in slot IU3, except the HBA board, are on the left sides of the front
panels on the boards. Therefore, such a board cannot be installed in slots IU7, IU8, IU18, IU19, IU26, IU27, IU35,
or IU36. In addition, the PCB of the HBA board is in the middle of the front panel. Note this when you create a
logical HBA board on the T2000 or T2100.
System Slots for system boards such as the AUX, PIU, FAN, EFI2, EFI1, and ATE cannot be interchanged. That is, such
slots are exclusive for certain boards.

The DIP switch for the master/slave subrack is on the EFI1 board.
The ID of the master subrack is 0 by default. The ID of a slave subrack is set by using DIP switches SW1
and SW2, as shown in the figure. The ID of a slave subrack consists of eight binary digits that are
decreasing arranged as ID8–ID1. Currently, only ID6–ID1 are valid, and ID7 and ID8 are reserved. ID1–ID4
correspond to bits 1–4 of SW2, and ID5–ID8 correspond to bits 1–4 of SW1. If a bit is toggled ON, the
binary digit that corresponds to this bit is set to 0.

Modifying a node ID causes service interruption.

1. The OptiX OSN 8800 is configured with two fan
tray assemblies. The lower fan tray assembly is
used to inhale, and the upper one is used to
exhaust. Each fan tray assembly is underlined
with an air filter.
2. When powered on, the fans are running at their
medium speeds. When the SCC software is
running, the SCC controls the fan speed. When
the fans are running, if the SCC is offline or
reset or certain fans are faulty, the in-service
fans run at their full speeds (resulting in a large
noise). In this case, you can manually set the
fan speeds (low, medium, or high).
3. The upper and lower fans are the same and thus

Configuration of a Cabinet for the OptiX OSN 8800 I Equipment

One N63B 2.2 m cabinet can house two OptiX OSN 8800 subracks or one OptiX
OSN 8800 subrack plus two OptiX OSN 6800 subracks. If the N63B 2.2 m
cabinet houses two OptiX OSN 8800 subracks, these two subracks must be
an optical-layer subrack placed in the lower space and an electrical-layer
subrack in the upper space of the cabinet. (In the case of the OptiX OSN 8800,
the subrack installed with cross-connect boards and OTU boards or tributary/line
boards is called the electrical-layer subrack, and the subrack mainly installed with
optical-layer boards is called optical-layer subrack. Generally, the optical-layer
subrack is not configured with cross-connect boards.)

Precautions:
•When multiple subracks are to be installed into one cabinet for expansion, install
these subracks from top to bottom. In the case of cabinet-sharing configuration of
the OptiX OSN 8800 and OptiX OSN 6800, first configure the OptiX OSN 8800
subrack in the upper space of the cabinet, then configure the OptiX OSN 6800
subrack in the lower space, and at last configure an expansion subrack in the
middle space, to avoid uneven distribution of weight.

Installation of the OptiX OSN 8800
PDU of a cabinet

1. If the OptiX OSN 8800 subrack is used as an electrical-layer subrack, its maximum power consumption is 4800 W. In this case, the
subrack requires two 50 A currents. Four 50 A currents, including two active 50 A currents and two standby 50 A currents, are configured
for the subrack. Therefore, if two OptiX OSN 8800 subracks are installed in one cabinet, eight 50 A air circuit breakers should be
configured on the PDU of the cabinet.
2. In practice, if the power consumption of configured boards is moderate whereas the customer cannot provide the power supply
compliant with Huawei specifications, the expected power consumption can be roughly calculated according to the actual power
consumption of the boards. The calculation formula is as follows: Expected power consumption = Actual power consumption/40 V*120%.
In this case, a project memo that records the calculation must be prepared and mutually signed by Huawei and the customer.
4. The OptiX OSN 8800 subrack and the PDU adopt ring terminals.
5. If the number of power supplies is insufficient, see the next slide for the power supply installation scheme.

HUB mode
 Currently, multi-dimensional optical cross-connection requires multiple
NE 1 subracks. Therefore, the master-slave subrack management is adopted.
 One OptiX OSN 8800 master subrack can be configured with three OptiX
OSN 8800 slave subracks plus four OptiX OSN 6800 slave subracks. In
addition, a slave subrack cannot be upgraded to a master subrack.
HUB  In the master-slave subrack mode, multiple subracks are displayed as one
NE on the T2000. In the traditional HUB mode, multiple subracks are
displayed as multiple NEs on the T2000.
NE 2 NE 3 NE 4 In the case of the OptiX OSN 8800 V100R001, the master subrack must be
the OptiX OSN 8800 subrack, and the OptiX OSN 6800 subracks can be used
as only slave subracks. In the case of the OptiX OSN 8800 of version
V100R002 or later, this constraint is cleared.

Scenario in which two OptiX OSN 8800 subracks share one

cabinet:
• The upper subrack functions as the master subrack. It must
be an electrical-layer subrack.
• The lower subrack can be either an electrical-layer subrack or an
optical-layer subrack.
• The master and slave subracks are connected to each other
through a straight through cable.
• The straight through cable is connected between subrack
cascade interfaces ETH1/2/3 on the two EFI2 boards in the master
subrack to the slave subrack. The figure on the right shows how to
connect the cable. In the case of inter-cabinet master-slave
subrack mode, it is recommended that you cascade the subracks
according to the figure (for example, connect interface ETH1 in the
slave subrack shown in the figure to interface ETH2 in the upper
subrack in another cabinet).
• NM_ETH1 and NM_ETH2 are two network management
interfaces. A straight through cable is connected between interface
NM_ETH1/2 on the T2000 (or T2100) and interface ETH1/2/3 on
the master subrack. No network cable needs to be connected
between a slave subrack and the T2000 (or T2100).
