Week 6

Happy Birthday to Miss Aliya!!!!

We had Melania and Natalie as our classroom Super Heroes!! They were wonderful
role models for the rest of the class! Way to go Super Girls!

It was a fantastic week here in our Cub Den. We have welcomed two new students in
the last little bitAve Maria and Ayana! They have fit right in to our classroom
welcome, welcome, welcome! We now have 27 friends in FDK 2!

Language: This week we have worked on the letters Cc and Kk. The children understand
that these letters are neat because they share the same sound. We have also started a
conversation regarding where we find print in our world. Students shared with me that we
see signs outside (ex. Stop sign), in grocery stores, in the school and even at the park!
When you are out and about with your child, encourage them to find print around them.
Further their exploration by asking what letters they see and maybe can they sound it

out??? Please continue to work on the name printing sheets that were sent home. Return
them to school when they are complete so I can reward your child with a sticker!!
Arts/Science: This week we tried a very cool experiment. We have been discussing
primary colours (red, blue, and yellow) and how they can be mixed to create secondary
colours. We took three mason jars. One jar had blue water in it and one of the others had
red water. One jar had nothing in it. We then ran paper towel through all three jars.
Students each made a hypothesis about what they thought might happen. Then after
completing the experiment they drew a picture of what really occurred. Such smart little
scientists! They can tell you what the outcome was!
Math: This week in math students continued with sorting and measuring.
Religion: This week we have looked back to discussing bucket filling and positive
behaviours in the classroom. We read books on what to do when we are angry and
emotions. We discussed various Jesus stories from the bible as well.
Phys. Ed: We had mass in the gym on Wednesday, so unfortunately we only had one gym
lesson this week. We again explored cooperative games with the students and they had a
blast!

Please continue to work on name printing and letter printing at home. All children can
benefit from a little bit of Fun Work at home. Being able to print, in general, allows for
a sense of accomplishment! Woot woot!
