Week 17

This week we are so proud of Dior and Leah who were our two Super
Heroes!
Dior read us a Dora bookwell done darling, you went through the
whole book by yourself! And Leah read us Hurry, Hurry! And also read
the entire book!!! WOW!!!!

This week has been so much fun with the addition of snow outside!!!
The children have gotten into the routine of dressing and undressing
for outdoors. They have learned to take their boots off out of the
cubby area, so that it can stay somewhat dry. Please continue to send
extra socks with your child and perhaps an extra pair of mitts.
Language: This week we focussed on the letter Xx and the letter Qq.
The students have learned that the letter Qq must be accompanied by
the letter Uu, they are an inseparable couple! We also continued with
sight word practise. The children have been engaging in a few new
literacy centers that promote sight word recognition. We have been
noticing that some students have begun to look at our popcorn word
wall to help them print various words. Our Writers Workshop this

week was In the winter I love to. We continue to practise phonetic

spelling and stretching out our words in order to hear each sound. Ex.
STOP = S T O P.
CAT = C A T.
We also continue to focus on initial and end sounds.
Phys. Ed: We practised throwing/catching skills using bean bags in the
gym this week. Students were partnered up and practiced throwing
underhand. They also practised to use their foot to help lead and
direct their toss and how to position themselves to catch.
Arts: We continue to listen to music from other regions. This week we
listened to quiet Spanish and Irish music during the lunch hour. We
also put videos from the Piano Guys on the Smartboard. The children
sat in awe, it was very beautiful! We completed a piece of art that
reflects a fun Winter activitycatching snowflakes on our tongues!
Students were required to follow step-by-step instructions to
complete the craft and they did so great!
Science: This week we had fun exploring snow in our water table during
large activities and the students enjoyed chipping away at ice to see if
they could discover hidden jewels. We also enjoyed a refreshing
nature walk Thursday morning. Students loved the snow and we had
lots of fun exploring this familiar walk covered in powdery white snow!
Math: This week we explored the numbers 1-10 through centres.
Students floated from one centre to another which focussed on
number sense and numeration. We also began to look at 2-D shapes.
This is our focus for the next while. Students enjoyed exploring shapes
using our Smart board.

Religion: This week we had adorable Evelyn come back to our

classroom. The Roots of Empathy focus this week was on crying. We
also partook in mass yesterday in our gym. Students were well behaved
