Week 9

Thank you so much to this weeks Super Heros! Ave Maria and Michael
did a wonderful job of directing the class!

This week has been so much fun! The children enjoyed the incredibly
warm weather and we all keep hoping it will last, just a little bit longer!

Language: In language this week we looked at the letters Dd and Gg.

Our year 2 students are becoming very efficient at working in their
alphabet books. Our 1st year students are beginning to memorize the
Jolly Phonics letter sounds. We are so proud! We completed another
Writers Workshop as well. This week I asked students What do you
do when you feel sleepy? We had so many different ideas! Please
continue to work on letter formation and letter sounds with your child.
Letters and sounds are the basis for all printing. Its important that
they receive as much exposure to this as possible! We also began our
unit on Nursery Rhymes. This supplements all the rhyming work we
have been doing since the beginning of the year. We focused on
Humpty Dumpty.
Art/Music: This week we are discussing hibernation. The children
created a piece of art that depicts a sleeping bear. We have continued

our exploration of classical music during the lunch hour as well. We

were also privileged to see some wonderful dramatic play during their
self-directed activity time. A group of students put together a
dramatic rendition of Humpty Dumpty, all on their own. This makes me
all kinds of happy!!! Woot woot!!
Phys. Ed We took advantage of the warm weather on Wednesday and
played outside instead of heading to the gym. On Friday we played
some fun cooperative games and shook out some of our Friday morning
sillies!
Science/Math: Students examined leaves and their textures. They
made a graph that indicated if the leaf was crunchy when they
squished it or not. Graphing is the next focus for our little lions. We
discussed parts of a graph, such as label and title.
Religion: We are continuing with Second Step. Students learn that
every emotion is appropriate, we just need to learn how to handle that
emotion properly.
