Week 37

Oh goodness!!!!! We have finally hit Juneit doesnt seem

possible that this much time has flown by! Our Super Hero
schedule has reached rapid round this month. You will see that
there are an increased number of students in the Super Hero role
each week. This is so that all students get one last chance. The
schedule for our travelling Bear will have to change as well. We
will try and send Bear home the night before your childs Super
Hero day. This will allow an evening at your house and your child
can tell us about it on his/her special day.

This week we were able to celebrate Mr. Andrews Birthday!!!! We

feel that hugs from this child are healing for the soul!!! Happy
Birthday lovey boy!!!
The month of June has a special activity every day. Please pay
special attention to the calendar so that you dont miss out on
anything!
This week has been riddled with schedule changes and special
project preparations. The children have been very patient and
have not seemed bothered by the schedule upset.

Language: This week we have been exploring Jelly Fish! It has

been a lot of fun. We showed the children video of actual Jelly Fish
and we learned a bit about them. We created a What we know
chart and discussed what we remembered from the footage.
We also engaged in Literacy Centers on Thursday morning. We
had some fun with a few new centers. To give you an idea of
what happens during literacy centers, here is a list of
activities that we did: Build a Sight Word (using mega
blocks), String the Sight word (String letter beads onto pipe
cleaner to form a sight word), Sight Word Bowling (one
person says a sight word taped to a bowling pin and the
other person tries to knock that pin over with a ball), Fathers
Day Card station (printing words onto card), Chalkboard
printing (use chalk and chalkboard to print sight words or
any other words theyd like), playdough printing (smooth
playdough out on table surface and use popsicle stick to
print letters or words in it) and the Smart Board (I built a file
that encompasses sight words, letter/sound recognition,
rhyming and more. Literacy centers are a wonderful way to
have all students engaged at one time. They roam from one
center to the next exploring! Its a very busy classroom
during Literacy Centers.
Phys. Ed: This week we used our phys. Ed time to go outdoors
and use our skipping ropes and play on the primary
equipment! The children love being able to play on the big
kid equipment and many attempted to play some soccer
baseball. We are thinking this might be a fun and
challenging game to introduce to the students next week!
Art: Students enjoyed creating some beautiful pieces of art. They
created a sun catcher Jelly Fish as well as a 3-D jelly fish
which we have hung in our classroom to make us feel like we
are in the depths of the ocean!

Science: We learned about Jelly Fish and how and why they sting
us. We learned about animals that cannot be harmed by a
Jelly Fish. We also completed a milk experiment with food
colouring. Students observed a unique reactionask them
about it!
Math: This week students explored probability using a gumball
machine. They had to decide on what colour gum was most
probable and least probable. We also had the same topic but
with Fruit Loopsit was a yummy lesson!
Religion: This week we have engaged in a lot of discussion
surrounding growth and our futures. We have been talking
about our Year 2 students graduating from Kindergarten and
moving on to grade 1. We talk about fears, excitement and
wonder about this change. We are also coming to the end of
our Roots of Empathy program. We have talked about how
baby Evelyn has changed so much and how much she has
developed. This theme of change, growth and the future will
continue on the month of June.
