Jaguars are active for about 12 to 13 hours a day. They usually hunt early in
the morning and in the evening. For the rest of the day, they normally patrol
their territory (40 to 80 square kilometers). Jaguars like swimming and they
sometimes swim only for enjoyment. Jaguars always hunt alone. They have
an exceptionally strong bite. Jaguars usually kill their prey by biting
through the skull between the ears. Jaguars prefer to hunt large
animals like deer, tapirs, anacondas, crocodiles, and javelins, but
they sometimes eat small animals like frogs, mice, and turtles.
