Massive landslide buried parts of Chosica, Peru

A massive landslide caused by heavy rains buried parts of

Chosica, Peru killing at least 9 people on March 24, 2015.
Alfredo Murgueytio, the head of the National Civil Defense Institute
(Indeci), said yesterday six people were missing and 25 were injured in
the disaster in Chosica, some 30 km (18.6 miles) east of Lima.
There are likely more dead bodies under the debris, Murgueytio said.
Indeci said the landslide destroyed 65 houses and rendered another 45
unlivable.
Landslides and avalanches in Peru have killed 28 people and destroyed
1 245 houses so far this year, mainly in rural towns in the Andes and
Amazon.
Chosica is located between mountains and next to a river and has been
damaged by landslides several times in the past. Massive landslide
which hit the town in 1987 killed 64 people.
Meteorologists predict heavy coastal rain through the rest of the month.
