RQ: Can Indonesia defend itself from other country only based on economy strength?
Introduction
Indonesias Agricultural Economy
State defense is an important aspect that a country has to have. State defense is a
defense of a state or country, done by the government or people to help and also protect their
country. State defense is an extremely important aspect of a country, as it helps protect and
defend a country from possible attackers and threats, ensuring that a country and its people
remain safe. As Indonesian citizens, it is our duty to learn about the state defense in Indonesia
so that we are able to understand how we can also partake in state defense. There are different
kinds of way for people to defend a country. In Indonesia, one of the ways is to rely on
agricultural economy. Agricultural economy is based on the selling of oil and plantation.
Though agriculture in Indonesia has several negative impacts, one of them being
deforestation, it still helps us with our economy that later on will be used to defend the
country.
Background Theory
Indonesia consists of many islands. Besides that, Indonesia also has a wide range of
diverse tribes. There are a variety of big tribes such as Java, Sunda, Melayu, Batak and so on.
Indonesia also has small tribes like the Mentawai tribe and others. State defense can be taken
from many perspectives such as economic defence, military defence or political defence. The
diversity of Indonesia affects Indonesias economy, military force, and political defense. The
general goal of the state is to create and improve the welfare of its people. Although so, there

are some opinions about the state goals that have been expressed by some experts such as
Dante Alighieri. Dante Alighieri stated that the state goal is to achieve world peace.
According to him, there should be only one country in this world. He thinks that with many
countries in the world, it would be hard to achieve world peace due to different objectives and
interests of each countries. Therefore, Dante Alighieri expressed that there should only be one
country in order to achieve world peace.
Another theory of the state goal is ensuring human rights and freedom. Immanuel
Kant said that the goal of the state is upholding the rights and the freedom of the citizens. In
order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to form a legal state so that every action of the state
must be grounded to state law. The last theory, which was stated by Niccolo Machiavell, is to
establish the state power. He stated that by establishing the states power, the government can
do anything. If it is necessary, the government can cheat for the sake of saving the country.
Analysis
As we know, the degree of economy in Indonesia is directed more to the cities than
villages, meaning the people living in villages are weaker in economy than people who live in
cities or towns. It is easier to get a job, especially a high-paid one in a city rather than in a
village, because the infrastructure is better in cities than in villages. Most businessmen will
prefer to open their businesses in cities, which makes it easier to get jobs in a city rather than
in villages.

However, villages also contribute and give great impact to help improve agricultural
economy in Indonesia. One example is taken from North Sulawesi. In North Sulawesi, they
have large and small scale mines. It is stated that small scale mines affect the agricultural
economy more than large scale mines, even though both scale mines are currently suffering

from governance deficiencies. While small scale mine contributes more to the economy,
impact of the larger mines cause more controversy to the local people.
Conclusion
Indonesia is a diverse country. With resources such as rubber, palm oil, rice, coal, and
more. Though Indonesia has many resources that could be valued and if sold wisely it could
help build Indonesias economy. However many complications come with succeeding in this
plan. One of many reasons why Indonesias agricultural economy is not at its highest point is
because Indonesia has not yet worked out a plan to combine all the resources and sell it to the
world. Currently, Indonesias sources are used by either Indonesia only, or are misused and
bought by other countries, for example Singapore. Singapore is one of the main reasons why
Indonesias rainforests are suffering deforestation. Indonesias rich rainforest has many
resources and elements that Singapore needs for their country (such as palm oil). Another
reason why Indonesias agricultural economy is not at its highest point is because of lack of
cooperation. Tea plantations, coffee plantations, and rice plantations are all scattered over
Indonesia yet are not working together yet. Instead they all have their own national products,
and factories. Laziness is another factor why Indonesias agriculture economy is not strong.
If Indonesias factories were more clean, cooperative, and willing to push harder, products
from Indonesia could go worldwide. It is already mentioned in Indonesia Investments that
Indonesia is one of the top tea producers (number 8 to be exact). Due to palm plantations
many tea plantations have been removed and changed to palm plantations. It is also said in
Indonesia Investments Imports will have to be increased if the government provides no
incentives to develop the country's tea industry. Moreover, Indonesia will keep losing ground
to the other tea producing countries if no investments - whether public or private - are made.
Indonesia could easily improve their economic state if only they cooperate together,
communicate, and plan ahead.
