University is going to organise a ten days Research Methodology Course for Ph.D
Research Scholars, during 6th May 2015 to 15th May 2015. This course is
sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research [ICSSR], New Delhi. The
course is designed to impart knowledge on research methodology in the context of
qualitative and quantitative research along with training in advanced statistical
packages including SPSS etc across the various fields of social sciences and
humanities. The course will discuss the relationship between the universe of
economic theory with that of economic data and econometrics. The Course
will also discuss the in research methodology tools for specific areas of
econometrics tools and analysis of results. The emphasis is on the practical mode
of teachings which will help the participants to learn the technicalities for handling
software for data analysis in a systematic manner.
Thus the programme is aiming at the discussion on theory followed by
thorough practical sessions. The workshop is proposed to give a thorough
exposure to the Cross Sectional and Panel data analysis and the related
econometric tools. The participants will get a good training on two important
software SPSS and STATA and will learn how to analyse the data using them. By
the end of the programme they will be able to develop their conceptual clarity and
practical knowledge to run the software for analysis and interpreting the data for
their research. The programme will provide information and skills on the basics of
using SPSS for informed decision-making, specifically the programme focuses on:

 Developing better understanding of basic concepts of statistics and

econometrics
Basics of Data Analysis: (through SPSS )
Cross-Section Analysis (through SPSS )
Elementary Time Series Analysis
Panel-Data Analysis
Applications to Research (through SPSS)
Providing an overview of the computer data analysis and statistical
softwares.
To develop among participants a comprehensive understanding towards
application of scientific research methodology.
To provide an overview of the concepts and theories of research
methodology used in scientific research and formulation of proposals for
seminars/conferences/workshops and research projects.
To develop scientific understanding among the participants about different
tools and techniques of research linking it with their on-going research.
To explain the prevailing trends in computer applications in social science
research.
To train the participants about use of statistical techniques in data analysis in
the field of social sciences.
Eligibility of the Participants
Only

/enrolled
Ph.D
Research
Scholars
of
any
University/Instititutes/Colleges in any branch of Social Science and Humanities
are eligible to apply to the Course Director along with duly filled up registration
form.
Preference will be given to scheduled Caste [SC] candidates. However, if
required numbers of SC participants does not turn up, candidate from ST, OBC,
Minority and women categories will be given preference.
How to apply
Interested candidates can apply to Course Director along with duly filled up
[Hard copy] registration form on or before 15th April 2015. Registration form
can also be downloaded from the University website [www.mkuniversity.org],

advanced copy of application may be sent to the Course Director through email.
The applications are duly filled with registration form must be accompanied
with the following enclosures.
1. Brief CV of the applicant and duly attested photo copies of the supportive
documents
2. A brief note about the current stage of thesis with special mention of
research methods about the thesis work of the candidate [not exceeding 1000
words].
3. Community Certificate for SC/ST/OBC/Minority.
Selected candidates would be informed on /after 21st April, 2015 by email or
telephonically.
Registration fee
Registration fee for the participants is Nil.
Accommodation & Travel Allowance
Accommodation will be provided to the outstation participants [only Max.20].
Travel allowance by the shortest distance bus or train [sleeper class] will be
reimbursed to the outstation participants as per the allocation under expenditure
head, ICSSR guidelines with a maximum limit of Rupee one thousand.
Time and venue of the course
The course will be conducted during 6th May 2015 to 15th May 2015. The course
will be organized at the Seminar Hall, School of Economics, Madurai Kamaraj
University. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will provided at the Venue.
