Mexican American War
The War was the cause of Texas becoming an independent territory, making Mexico losing most of it;'s land. Also, Mexico has a dispute
with America because they believe two different rivers were the boundary of texas. America believed that the Rio grande river was the
border, but Mexico thought that the Nueces River was. The war ended from the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. America gave
Mexico 15 million dollars for it, from it though, we got 525,000 miles of land.

River. Robert Fulton is one of the most famous steamboat builders in the USA for making one of the first ones to travel the Mississippi
River.
Steamboats are normally used on rivers and shallow water. The Shallow bottom was used when traveling within the shallow parts of the
River. The gigantic wheel on the back of the boat was used to help push the boat upstream. They were a popular form of transportation
because with the wheel it was quicker to go upstream.

Westward Expansion
The first acquisition of the United States was the Thirteen Colonies, This acquisition also brought the first thirteen states. After the
colonies went to war with Britian, We ended the war with the Treaty of Paris. The Treaty of Paris not only ended the war but also defined
the Original Borders of the United States of America.
With the United States owning the original 26 states, we then bought the area of land, or as we called it The Louisiana Purchase. The
Louisiana Purchase cost the United States of America a total of $15,000,000, which back then was a steal considering how much land
and resources were in the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase included the following states of Montana, North Dakota, South
Dakota, Kansas, Missouri, Wyoming, Minnesota, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
After the Louisiana Purchase, we purchased Florida from Spain. We got Florida due to a treaty between the USA and Spain that gave
Florida to the USA and put the boundary between Mexico and the United States. The Treaty was in 1795 and can also be called by its
name of the Adam-Ons Treaty
After we purchased Florida, we then had the Texas Annexation. It was when the Republic of Texas became the 28th state. The
Annexation of Texas led to the Mexican-American war in 1846, one year after Texas became a state.
The Oregon Country was jointly controlled by the U.S. and the United Kingdom until 1846 when the states of Oregon, Washington and
Idaho. We got the territory when In 1846 under President James K. Polk the U.S. signed a treaty with Britain, Which gave us the Oregon
Country.
The Mexican Cession was the Area of the United States that Mexico agreed to give up as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The
Treaty also ended the Mexican-American War. This treaty, which took place in 1848, gave us the states of California, Nevada, and Utah
and parts of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
The Gadsden Purchase, which is a small area of land underneath Arizona, was the last territorial acquisition of the USA (Before Alaska
and Hawaii). The Purchase took place in 1853, purchased for 10 million dollars and was meant to be a piece of land for a southern
transcontinental railroad.
