Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s):

We are currently planning a Grade 7 off-site activity cooking class to ATCO Blue
Flame Kitchen Learning Centre, which is located in downtown Calgary. The Off-Site
Activity will occur on April 14, 2016 from 9:15am until 1:15pm. The students will be transported to and
from the activity by Southland Transportation Ltd. All students are required to be at the school at 9:00am.
The bus will leave at 9:15am where they will participate in the activities described below, and depart from
ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen Learning Centre at 1:00pm and return to the school at 1:15pm.
The students will be introduced to basic cooking skills and kitchen safety in a fun, fully interactive
format. Students will prepare and cook a healthy lunch, which will then be eaten by the students. Both
myself, and our Drama teacher, Dan Perry will be supervising the off-site activity. We are looking for one
volunteer to help supervise the Grade 7 cooking class. If you are able to volunteer for this off-site
activity, please notify myself, Emma Pak at email@cbe.ab.ca. Complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate,
lunch and snack will be provided to the volunteer. You are asked to complete the attached Consent and
Acknowledgement of Risk form if you consent to your son/daughter attending this off-site activity.
If your child is unable to participate in this activity, he or she will participate in the regular learning
designated in his or her timetable provided at the school. Information about the administrative
regulations governing these forms can be found at www.cbe.ab.ca / Policies / Administrative Regulations/
AR3027. While some degree of risk is always associated in all school off-site activity, I have outlined
specific areas of concern on the Consent and Acknowledgement of Risk form. To prepare your child for
these risks we ask that you ensure your son or daughter wear closed toe shoes and weather appropriate
clothing for the bus ride. Please email me directly concerning any dietary restrictions or serious allergies
and I will ensure the site supervisor is notified.
The cost is $10 for this off-site activity, to pay for the bus. If you have any questions about the school offsite activity, please do not hesitate to call or text 403-555-0493 or email me with any inquiries. Also, in
accordance with Administrative Regulation 3027, no eligible student may be denied participation on the
basis of the inability to pay. Please contact the school Principal for information on financial assistance.
I am looking forward to seeing the Grade 7 students engaged in this wonderful learning opportunity.
Sincerely,

Emma Pak, B.Kin, B.Ed
