Waterford Kettering High School

Waterford School District is located at the center of Oakland County in


southeast Michigan, 31 miles northwest of Detroit. The district
encompasses Waterford Township and portions of the surrounding
townships of White Lake, West Bloomfield, Independence and Lake
Angelus. The district consists of 9 elementary, two middle, two senior
high schools and one alternative high school. Waterford is an
established suburban residential community of nearly 80,000 residents.
Within its boundaries are four private schools, Oakland Community
College Highland Lake Campus, and the Oakland County International
Airport. There are 20 lakes within the 36 square miles.

Waterford Kettering High School is a public school which opened in


1961. Fall 2016 enrollment in grades 9-12 is1425. The school offers a
comprehensive curriculum with an emphasis on college preparatory
and career education courses. Kettering offers a 7-period day which
includes the option for students to take Academic Center. There are
fifty-eight (58) classroom teachers, four(4) counselors and three (3)
administrators. Fifty (50) percent of the professional staff have a
masters degree or higher.

The Mathematics and Science Departments have an integrated


curriculum. Both programs blend technology, critical thinking,
and problem solving with all the traditional disciplines in each
year.
Advanced Placement courses are offered in biology, calculus,
chemistry, physics, English, U.S. history, world history, psych,
government, art, Spanish and German. Qualifying students may
participate in dual enrollment at local colleges on a part-time,
cooperative basis.
Technical classes are available at Oakland Technical Center Northwest Campus, Clarkston, Michigan.
Articulation agreements are available through Oakland Technical
Center with Baker College, Ferris State University, The Art
Institute of Pittsburgh, Delta College, Michigan State University,
University of Kentucky, and Owens Community College.
Articulation agreements are available through Waterford School
District with Baker College, Davenport University, Ferris State
University, Oakland Community College and University of Northwestern Ohio.
The Academic Center is an educational support program built to
increase student achievement through mentoring. Students are
provided with common structure, multiple resources, and mentoring support in various academic areas.
