Grade 1 Curriculum Updates

Language Arts: The students have been working on writing personal narratives, writing in response to
reading, as well as focusing on writing in complete sentences, using correct capitalization and
punctuation. We have also worked on identifying nouns, verbs and adjectives.
Math: The students have been working on building their number sense and working with place value.
We have also worked on some of our basic facts.
Science: The students have worked on the Plant & Animal unit. They identified living vs. non-living
things, identified external body parts on animals that provide protection for the animal. They also
learned about engineers and what they do.
Social Studies: The students leaned about being a citizen and what makes a good citizen.
Health: We have spent a lot of time discussing how to be a good friend, what makes a family special
