RAP means:

Restate the question prompt

Answer the whole question
Provide details from the text for
support
Details you provide must apply to
the question and must also be
specific!

Example Question:
Why was the Fair Gwen scared when
she saw Freak coming out of the
down under with Max? Provide two
details from the text to support your
answer.
Types of answers we have seen:
Because shes scared of Max.
Cuz of all the stuff she knew about
him.
For one, these arent even
sentences. You know that these
are dependent clauses.

 In addition, they provide NO

specific details to support the
answers to prove they are correct.
Lets see what a well written answer
looks like:
Example Question:
Why was the Fair Gwen scared when
she saw Freak coming out of the
down under with Max? Provide two
details from the text to support your
answer.

The Fair Gwen was scared

because

A she was worried that Max

might hurt her son due to how he
looks.

P I know this because 1) we find

out later that Max looks like his
father who happens to be in prison,
and 2) and Gram later says that
Gwen wasnt expecting to see Max
looking so big.
Lets practice it again:
Example Question: Why are Freak
and Max so scared of Tony D. at the
mill pond? Provide two details from
the text to support your answer.
Bad answers:

Because Tony D. is a punk.

Because Tony is chasing them.
Cuz that guy is mean.
Tony D. is bad.
IDK

Instead, a good answer looks more

like this:

Freak and Max are so scared

of Tony D. because

Tony D. has the nickname

Blade and that is pretty intimidating.

I know this because 1) he

carries a switchblade which he pulled

out at the millpond. 2) Tony D. also
cut another person with a razor
who almost died. 3) In addition, hes
been to juvy court 3, or 4 times for
bad actions.
