Learning Target: I can identify the plot

structure of a short story.

1. Bellringer: In three
sentences, describe a
conflict you have had
with someone. (write this in
your journal)
2. What does plot structure look like?
3. Plot Structure for Jaws
4. Watch Alma and Bird on a Wire

What is the PLOT of a story?

-A sequence of events that happen in a story

1. Exposition: The Introduction!

*Introduces characters
*Shows you setting (time and place a
story occurs)
*Gives you very basic idea of plot

2. Rising Action: A conflict occurs and

usually continues to build.
*Conflict=Problem

*There can be several or more of

these conflicts that occur as the
story progresses. In the case of
Jaws, there continue to be more
and more shark attacks and the

sheriff is trying desperately to stop

them from happening.
3. CLIMAX: The main character faces the
conflict. The main conflict comes to a boiling
point.

4. Falling Action: Things start to go back

to normal / life goes on even if problem isnt
completely solved

5. Resolution: Loose ends are tied up

the story / helps reader understand
fully what went on
*Usually love conquers all
* Usually the enemy has been defeated
* Usually the conflict has been fixed

*However, sometimes we
dont
have
a
happy
ending
