Student medical volunteer coordinator sought

Dr. Matthew Weed, the incoming Co-Director of the Biology Academic Success Center in the
College of Biological Sciences seeks a part-time assistant to help him with some essential
tasks.

Commitment: five-ten semi-schedulable hours/week beginning Jan 4 2016.

Job responsibilities: Dr. Weed is a totally blind and diabetic individual who needs reliable
assistance with a simple blood glucose monitoring and insulin dosage measurement routine
that he cannot perform independently due to his blindness. He will need the volunteer
coordinator to manage a group of up to 30-40 volunteers who will assist him at 7:30 AM all
mornings and at 6:00 PM all evenings. He/she will be the emergency contact if a volunteer
is unavailable and will cover open med times until volunteers have been recruited to fill
them. (S)he may also help with a wide variety of ongoing errands and tasks including but not
limited to assisting with transportation to and from the University campus, trips to the
pharmacy and grocery store, assistance with other errands such as occasional physicians'
appointments, the train station, or airports will also be needed.

Compensation: Coordinator will be paid $12/hour, reporting hours at the end of


every month.

Qualifications:
No previous medical experience is needed. Verbal English fluency is essential. The ability to
commit in writing to the position for at least the first half of calendar 2016 is strongly
preferred. High levels of personal responsibility, organization and integrity are required.
Ability to commit through 2016 is a strong plus.

Automobile ownership and some flexibility with respect to other time commitments are very
strong pluses.

Due to potential conflict of interest, candidates can not be undergraduate majors


in the College of Biological Sciences and can not be contemplating majoring in
that college.
