Government System In Japan

Background

Emperor Akihito

Japan was and always has had a parliamentary type government. The first appearance of this type of government appeared in the year 1889. This was around
the time that the nation was known as the
Empire of Japan which began to take
over different countries.
Japans government is based on a constitution like most governments. It was
changed after World War II. The constitution now calls for a separation of powers
and the emperor is more like a symbol rather than a supreme ruler as it was before.

Legislature
The legislature branch of the Japanese
Parliament is made up of a few groups;
the House of Representatives and House
of Councilors. Both of which fall under
the name The Diet. Each member of
these houses is voted by the people.

Executive
The Executive Branch is mainly made up
of ministers and the Prime minister. Although the Emperor is known as the Chief
Executive he gets little say in the manner.
The Prime Minister is known as the Second Chief Executive and his little more
say in the manner. He is also voted by
the Diet or Legislative Branch.

Judiciary
The judiciary branch is the same as the
one found in the U.S. government. The
Supreme Court is the main court and
there are other smaller courts according
to District, High Courts, Summary Courts,
and Family Courts.
