This document compares and contrasts the past simple and present perfect tenses. The past simple is used to describe actions that started and finished at a specific time in the past, such as "yesterday" or "last night." The present perfect tense is used to talk about actions that happened at an unspecified time before now, to describe changes over time, or to discuss experiences. It cannot be used with specific time expressions like "yesterday." The document provides examples of how to use each tense correctly and notes that some time expressions, like "in the last month," can be used with the present perfect tense.
