I Served with Pride


The visions return at
night to haunt me,
The screams echo through
my head.
I'll never erase the mental
snapshots of war,
The only fortunate ones

are the dead.


A prison awaits any combat vets,
Much worse than any
institution or cell.
A life sentence with no
hope for parole,
I took the oath now I'm
trapped in my hell.
For God and country I
stepped up strong,
The Constitution I swore
to defend.
With blood and sweat I
served with pride,
What can make my nightmares end?
