Perspective

What is it?
A scientifically derived method
of rendering objects to appear
on a 2D surface as we see
them in the 3D world.

Linear Perspective
1) Parallel lines
appear to recede
into the distance
and converge at a
single point
the vanishing
point.

Linear Perspective
2) Objects in the
distance appear
smaller.

Definitions
Vertical Lines:
Run up and down
(parallel to the edge
of the picture plane).
They always remain
vertical.

Definitions
Horizontal Lines:
Run side to side
(parallel to the
edge) always
remain horizontal.

Definitions
Parallel Lines:
Lines that run
side by side,
equal distance
apart.
As they get
closer together
as they move
towards the
Vanishing Point.

Definitions
Receding Lines:
Run from
foreground into
the background.
Will converge at
VP.

Definitions
Horizon Line:
Eye level
Vanishing point
is found here
dependant on
your viewpoint.

Definitions
Vanishing Point:
The point at
which parallel
and receding
lines converge
on the horizon
line.
