Course Outline
This course will focus on the skills of listening, reading, writing, and speaking in the
Spanish language at an intermediate level. Students will learn to understand the Spanish
language as it is spoken at an intermediate level and to communicate with more complex verbal
or written responses. Intermediate grammar and sentence structure will be taught with an
emphasis in using basic, everyday vocabulary. Cultural themes of the Spanish-speaking world
will continue to be introduced and interspersed throughout the course.

Classroom Guidelines
Students are expected to:
1) Come to class prepared.
2) Be in your seat and ready to begin when the bell rings.
3) Be respectful and courteous at all times.
4) Not disrupt the learning process.
*Cell phones will be put away at the beginning of the class period and are only to be
used when directed by the instructor. Students who do not put away their phone after being
asked the first time will have an office referral.
**No food or gum will be allowed in the classroom. Water bottles with lids are
acceptable.
Academic Dishonesty
*Anyone suspected of academic dishonesty throughout the Spanish I class will forfeit
their grade for that assignment/exam. Students will be allowed to complete an alternate
assignment/exam for half of the original credit.
**The use of translator programs is acceptable only for single words (example: one
noun or verb; cat=el gato, to eat=comer). Translating entire sentences or passages will
be considered plagiarizing and will not be tolerated.

Assignments
All classwork assignments will be logged in the students individual notebook.
It is the responsibility of an absent student to meet with the instructor to make-up missed
assignments. If a student is absent due to a school sponsored event, the absent student is
responsible for obtaining the assignment before the event and completing the assignment
before they return to class.

The grading scale is available for reference in the student handbook as follows:

Grades will be weighted according to the following percentages:

*If a student has a question regarding a grade, please make an appointment with the
instructor. Appointments may be scheduled for times before or after school.
