Iconography-objects, settings, backgrounds within in a text can
be analysed for meaning.
Clothing-the clothing worn communicates messages about that
for example a wrestling fan may wear a t-shirt of his favourite
wrestler.
Expressions-facial expressions communicate messages that can
be easily interpreted by an audience.
Gesture-gestures are non-verbal communicators and as such
cross language barriers.

Images and CaptionsThe image on a text print can develop the narrative. This can be
done through technical codes, visual codes, the mode of
address, or the way the audience is positioned by the look of
the subject.
An image without a caption is an open text and the
interpretation is up to the audience. Once there is text with the
image the audience will interpret the text a different way and
this closes the text.
